EQ II or FFXI

KenrichKenrich Member UncommonPosts: 127

I tried digging in the fourms and all I found were posts for eq2 or wow and wow or ffxi. I was wondering which one (eq or ff) Is good for soloing and crafting? ::::38::

    FFXI is not a solo friendly game at all

    EQ2 isn't really solo friendly either but doable ( they have made it much easier since I stopped playing I hear ). It does however have a pretty good crafting system, though it's selling system sucks. You have to be online and in your room to vendor anything.

    Not to play sides

    But

    You cant solo in FFXI.....well..I take that back.

    You can solo until lvl 16 tops. After that it's 100% group dependent. Its great if you like 100% group combat. lol...just had a bad flashback of a lvl 46 rabbit owning me when I was lvl 55. In EQ2, Ive soloed all the way up to lvl 60.....and Ive grouped (epic bosses are not solable as are heroic monsters)

    EQ2 has a great crafting set-up and FFXI has crafting too. The difference is, EQ2 you can start with pretty low funds and crank out things (and you have skills you have to use as you craft). FFXI, you'll need a good amount of cash and you do not really have a whole lot of control as you use a crystal and depending on your skill points whether or not the crystal will shatter.

    I hope that info helps

    Soloing = EQ2

    Crafting = FFXI

    FFXI is one of the few games where I actually enjoyed crafting. FFXI may not be solo friendly, but I lasted a year longer on FFXI than I did on EQ2.

    Just go for EQ2 either way lol, im a big Final Fantasy fan and i tried FFXI a few months ago with all the latest expansions etc and i have to say damn its boring, i really didnt enjoy the game to much at all, i didnt like the controls, the graphics hell i didnt even like the combat and this is all coming from someone who doesnt usually say bad things about mmorpgs. In the end its upto you but i would most definatly recommend EQ2, its a superb game all round and it seems its getting even better.

    Thanks alot

    Garrik

    image I think I only lasted about 3 months. Though I've been thinking about going back. Even though I hate SOE I hear they've turned EQ2 into a pretty good game.

    I beta tested EQ2 and didn't like it much. One of the reasons was that I don't spend hours and hours at a time gaming and it was too difficult to solo when I just wanted to play for an hour or so. Not long ago they made a big change in EQ2 making it much, much easier to solo and included a ton of solo content. The game has done a significant turn around and is definitely worth having a look.

    I couldn't tolerate FFXI at all. I found it frustrating. It seemed needlessly complex in many areas and impossible to solo. One of the reasons I don't go for games like FFXI, Lineage 2, Shadowbane (though I loved it while I played), and some others is that I don't want to invest the amount of time they require to be successful. I frequently pop in and out for an hour or so at a time and in many games, that's not enough to accomplish much of anything.

    I can't really comment on the issue here since I've only played WoW and I'm still a newbie in that game.  However some of the stuff that's been said so far is of interest to me...

    WoW is a lot of fun and very solo friendly, but it is not the deepest game out there.  Its actual crafting system seems OK if very simplistic but the ecomony is bare bones at best.  I'd like to see players setting up actual shops (and player housing too, which I know EQII has) but crafting in professions in WoW seem to have taken a back seat to questing and combat.

    EQII is a game I've been curious about for some time.  An all PVE game is perfectly cool in my book; I'm not really into PVP anyway.  Lots of people have said the community is better in EQII than in WoW, and while I personally haven't had any problems in WoW I would like to be able to make friends and questing buddies and have a chance for some actual RPing, which is almost nil in WoW.  That being said, I am not likely to get into a game that isn't solo friendly because there is always the chance that I'll be logging on and having to play by myself.  Therefore, I need to be completely convinced that EQII has truly been made soloable as some people have said if I'm gonna give it a serious shot.  Despite WoW's shortcomings, I like that game a lot for what it is; it's very easy for a newbie like me to pick up and play, very soloable, and overall a lot of fun to play.  So while I remain curious about EQII and the possibility that it could give me a deeper gaming experience, I still have a lot of reservations about trying it.  (SOE in general makes me nervous.)

    FFXI I'm not gonna even bother with.  I've heard enough.  Not solo-friendly = not for me.

    It's probably the better choice if, like me, you don't spend every minute of your free time in games and you frequently have to solo. Hope you have a blast!

    When you create a character you'll see a list of servers with population numbers (well not numbers but how full they are)

    If you want a heavy server (its RP) try Antonia Bayle....although there are a few servers out there that are heavy. Lucan, Befallen, etc
