Hey gang,
If you don't know about it the developers of this website have been quietly working on a Windows port of Privateer for a couple years now. They've released the "gold" version of the game and it's available for download.
If, like me, you loved the original Privateer. This sucker is definitely worth grabbing. It's not "perfect" but it's very very close to the original privateer and is a lot of fun.
If you don't know what privateer is it's basically the game that inspired games like EVE, Freelancer, Jumpgate and others. It was originally inspired by Elite and Frontier but set in the Wing Commander universe.
Enjoy!!!

It's the old pirate versus privateer gag.

Huh? No it's not. It's a complete version of Privateer done in a Windows Engine. They had a 'remake' out about 9 months ago. They have a 'gold' version now which is much better than that one was. Almost perfectly re-creating the original game. Now... mind you... they tried to keep it as "pure" as possible so the graphics aren't up to today's standards.
But it's a sweet version of Wing Commander - Privateer

Humor. It is a difficult concept.

So, let's build the background for the humor.
Privateer is not a pirate. A privateer is commissioned by a government to interfere with another government's shipping. A more modern representation of the privateer would be...a U-boat commander.
A Pirate does the same thing, but for the purpose of gaining personal wealth, and doesn't work for a government. He is a rogue element.
Hence, the privateer versus pirate gag. Some people think it's the same thing.
By using this knowledge, the obvious response was, "Arggghhhhh", the typical representation of a pirate in audible form.
Yeah, you read it. Admit it. But now it isn't funny anymore, if it was ever funny hehe.

Oh... guess I didn't get it because I've known the difference since I was like 6...
Scary that anyone would think a Privateer and a Pirate are the same
But minor correction: A privateer can be commissioned by just about any organization with enough funds to pay them, not just governments. Large corporations have been known to hire privateers also.
