I played SWG from day 1 (or day 2 since we couldnt even log in on day 1) and this game got progressively worse from there.
Now however after seeing the changes that they have recently made and watching these videos of the new system in action. I am starting to get a little excited about this title again. I will wait till they drop the obvious box set that will already include these new changes along with all the expansions and such but I do intend to play it.
Hopefully they will introduce a new race and profession (CH maybe) when they do put out the new box set.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
I have been on test center for a bit and can tell you this: If you think that Planetside is a good MMO with solid advancement and good pvp but still want part of the SWG flavor, then you will probably become one of the new SWG devout. If the above is not true then you are going to be disappointed. If you are someone who is a devout FPS player, you are going to be disappointed. If you love KOTOR, SWG will not measure up. If you love MMORPGs for great content and character advancement, then once again, SWG will not measure up. But if you want a mediocre MMORPG mixed in with a mediocre FPS and a declining fanbase, this game is for you. That said, the NGE for SWG might be the only combination of FPS and MMORPG to reach this level of advancement, so possibly it will get significantly better.
In the end though I believe it will be a weak FPS with weak character development and mediocre content for a MMORPG. The once great communities that carried this game are being completely destroyed through loss of veteran accounts so regardless of the numbers of subscribers, this is not going to bode well for the game as a whole. The only thing that is going to save SWG is the fact that it will soon be available for PS3 and possibly other consoles, but who knows what shape the game will be in by that time.
Also, I know I talked quite negatively, however you must know that although I cancelled my account today, I will probably renew once NGE goes live for 1 month to ensure I was right about what used to be my favorite game going down the tubes.
Yeh, i have been reading more into what combat will be like, not exactly what i had in mind. Here's what disappointed me: You must first target, like before, with the tab button, then once your target is chosen, you simply click the mouse button, without having to aim, as because the that target is chosen, you wont miss. You can even shoot with your back to the enemy, with your eyes closed.
Therefore, no freedom of attack, no skill in targeting or shooting, the sole difference seems to be that you click the left mouse button instead of F keys. What a let down, thats not the twitch based combat i or i believe anyone else had in mind, but i guess it was very easy to implement..pfft.

Um no. You don't need to use Tab to target, you don't even need to click to target. Hovering the mouse on a target will select it. Once you've got you're mouse on it, simply hold the mouse button down to fire (if your finger needs the exercise, keep clicking rapidly). If you move the mouse away from the target, you will not shoot - the mouse must be on the target at all times if you want to fire (you will also shoot at the part of the target you're aiming - could be the head or feet or anything)
if you are a handicap player that enjoyed the work around the regular game has to offer there are going to be serious draw backs as the game stands now
If you have tremor issues, mobility issues and cannot readily move mouse controlls this offering will no longer be readily useable by handicap players. Though they are looking into these issues for those with limited hand movements stay far away.
If there are carple tunnel or arthtius issues and lack of the ablity to massive continual clicking then once again this game is not for you
THere may be line of site issues, object or others walking in front of your ablity to target that will cause issues
The tutorial is riddled with bugs as to be expected on day 1 of testing.
The chat is non adjustable at this time and font is extremely small. So if you have eye issues or reading of small print you may want to wait till live to see if they correct font size adjustments in live game
at this point in time due to physical limitations my time here is done however if these issues are addressed i may re look at this at another time, i just hate the fact for something that i enjoyed a long time in spite of my own physical limitates will no longer be an option, because they decided to change it once again

Yeah, I can see how it would be a problem for those in your situation
As for the tutorial bugs, I was actually surprised to not find any. Granted I got in after they put in a fix for the Ramp bug. What bugs did you find?
Must admitted my initial reaction to the announcement of SWG:noogie was one of total shock. It came from out of the blue and totally broadsided everyone. I already knew my professionwas going away, even if the devs tried sweetening the pill by telling us we were getting a revamp to Spy. Total shocker that Scout left the building too and, well, less said about CH and BE the better. I'll just get paranoid that they were out to get me personally...
When I read the combat would be 'twitch' based I thought "oh noes! I hate that..." and stomped off to the game store and bought Battlefront II. Err, uhm... ah. OK, so maybe I could live with it in Galaxies too.
Haven't been able to get past the gaating problem withthe tutorial but have been reading the boards and d'l the videos as they appear and have to admit that it does look as if its going to be pretty good. Looking forward to finding out for myself.
As for players with disabilites that affect their gameplay. In an ideal world the new game would have been designed with 'everyone' in mind, but as with so many other RL projects, you try to accomodate the majority and then adjust to include anyone who is being disadvantaged. ATM we don't know enough about how the game is going to be adaptable but I really do hope that they make allowances for those of us who are a bit shaky. (Personally I've got a problem with my grip due to arthritis. Yup, i'm THAT old.)
All in all, pretty optimistic, though it's goingto be a heck of a shock on day one of the Live publish.
(Also, expect terrific lag onthe Live servers the first week or so because of all the addition scripts running server side to check for item conversion, respec, etc just like after CU etc)
I think Jedi should have to manually click buttons to block blaster fire

While i understand for the most part the gaming world is for the "young" i would like to remind players that who do they think they play with during the day, when they have a day off? Not just kiddies home from school, not just housewives either as some ole eq 2 advertisments lead us to believe but all kinds of folks are drawn into these games.
What made swg unique and special was the social side of the game, the running of a buisness, multi classing, never having to do combat if one choose not to, house decorating, the clothing .
Wow some of my pals had houses totaly dedicated to there wardrobe!
While i understand it is the younger crowd they are trying to appeal to with fast combat and combat orriented, and the numbers will come because after all you can "be a jedi" , i still find it sad that something that was so unique is sadly going away.
My favorite time in the game was sitting on porch of my house on tatoonie taking pot shots at the critters and taming babies. That to me was a blast, so was running a business
With letting that go and focusing on what i experainced on test center;
In the atruim first part of the quests, if someone walked in front of the mite or flint birdies i "lost target" that could be a huge issue in groups....
The levels of the mobs were so hard that i died mulitple times so did everyone else there, and over all some interesting language as folks realized the baby area was over powered......
To me a sandbox enviorment espeicaly tutorial wise should include green blue white and as you get use to aim target fire sequnece pick your own targets and go from there and advance
I saw yellows reds and lots of insta argo with the sqaucs lizzard looking thingies , Even after death they would gang up and pounce.
In the droid area same thing you would target one someone would walk in the way then two + would pounce.
Tried chating ( lag tremdous) tried forming groups to get around it not offered either due to lag or that part not avaiable yet.
THe print was so small on the chat tab couldn't read it at all.
If line of site moves to live game then others could use grif tactics to stop you from advancing.
these are just a few of the issues i faced.
One could not leave the space station unless finish the quests. Many tried to skip the tutorial on some there character creation had the skip tutorial box others did not even did screen shots put it up on test center discussion to prove no box to be seen to skip tutorial.

What made swg unique and special was the social side of the game, the running of a buisness, multi classing, never having to do combat if one choose not to, house decorating, the clothing . That part of the game isn't changing, anyone can still decorate their house(s). You could still have play sessions that involve no combat at all Crafters can still set up businesses too. Wow some of my pals had houses totaly dedicated to there wardrobe! Agreed My favorite time in the game was sitting on porch of my house on tatoonie taking pot shots at the critters and taming babies. That to me was a blast, so was running a business Again, I don't see why you can't still do this? With letting that go and focusing on what i experainced on test center; In the atruim first part of the quests, if someone walked in front of the mite or flint birdies i "lost target" that could be a huge issue in groups.... True The levels of the mobs were so hard that i died mulitple times so did everyone else there, and over all some interesting language as folks realized the baby area was over powered...... Um, did you do the quests in order or go straight to the mobs? Most of them are level 1, some of the later ones you come to are a little higher, but so are you by that point. The only time I died was when I had to throw grenades at some things but the grenade wouldn't go off using the hotkey, had to do it manually in my inventory. Other then that, I never even got incapped. To me a sandbox enviorment espeicaly tutorial wise should include green blue white and as you get use to aim target fire sequnece pick your own targets and go from there and advance See above I saw yellows reds and lots of insta argo with the sqaucs lizzard looking thingies , Even after death they would gang up and pounce. See above In the droid area same thing you would target one someone would walk in the way then two + would pounce. See above Tried chating ( lag tremdous) tried forming groups to get around it not offered either due to lag or that part not avaiable yet. At the moment, you can't open radials by holding the mouse on them like in live. Instead, hover the mouse on them to target and press the ~ key to open the radial menu. You can then invite Yes, there was alot of lag, but I think this comes down to a) TC being lesser hardware then Live and b) The huge amounts of people there THe print was so small on the chat tab couldn't read it at all. Text sizes seemed no different to me. Maybe try holding down CRTL and rolling the scroll wheel to increase the size? If line of site moves to live game then others could use grif tactics to stop you from advancing. True these are just a few of the issues i faced. One could not leave the space station unless finish the quests. Many tried to skip the tutorial on some there character creation had the skip tutorial box others did not even did screen shots put it up on test center discussion to prove no box to be seen to skip tutorial. Once you hit level 5, you can then talk to Han again and he'll take you to Eisley. You do need to do the quest to repair the Falcon tho first

Jedi haven't been "Unique" since the CU's first double-xp day.
They're no longer an invincible alpha class. There's your silver lining.
