Its not the first time Blizzard releases an expansion. Its not the first time a mmorg releases expansions. Its to get the hype back up, and old subscribers to resubscribe. 4.5 million current subs. WHo knows how many have canceled already. Most likely there is somewhere between 5 and 8 million boxes already sold. Of course its about the cash ($29 * 5 million copies is enough to feed a pretty large army ). But its also for the best of the game. Expansions breath life back into mmorgs. If anything one should be concerned if its too long between them.
I'm sure you guys all take in to account all the people that Blizzard employs and has to pay? Oh no you didn't remember the people that work for you and would like a paycheck so they can pay their mortgage, rent, and other such bills. You just think about yourselves. They spent years creating this game and spending millions of dollars probably on developing it. When their product was finished they asked that you pay a one time fee for what they have created. They needs this money to gain back what they spent to make it in the first place, and to make a profit as well, and of course to pay their employees. Remember Blizzard is not some ominous object that absorbs your money. It's full of real working people. Stop being selfish. If they are going to create a huge update that took them even more months/years to create they would like you to pay a one-time fee again for their product. They don't even require you to buy it to play the game and are not raising the monthly fee in any way. The world doesn't revolve around you, Blizzard has many divisions in different parts of the world and tons of employees. You don't see my writing hate mail and complaining constantly because I have to buy something from your business and it costs me money even though you get payed and your co-workers do as well, where do you think the money from your paycheck comes from? I hope you took into account all the Asian employees Blizzard pays at 1/10th the rate it pays it's North American Employees. The name of the game for Blizzard is greed and lack of customer service. I wish the 3rd world employees spoke English as their primary language not secondary. The responses my make sense if that were the case

what the heck you are speaking about?
The only asian employees Blizzard has are the people running the South Korean game. and i doubt they pay those guys less than the local custom makes them do, especially considering they CAN'T operate in most asian countries (including Japan, S.Korea and China) without the support of a local corporation and the approval of the government.

I thought it was common sense that the expansion was going to be with a price, never even occured to me that it would be free as in a patch. But that doesnt bother me what bothers me is that its going to deliver nothing but crap. The highlight of this expansion is max lvl = 70. New races? 2 of em You know why 2? because you have to keep alliance and horde equal, why the hell did it never occur to them that it could be way more fun to make a 3rd faction?

UO, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, AO, and any others that I'm forgetting have all had pay2play expansions. I agree that they should be free, but I also understand that they're not gonna be, ever.

You arent paying for the updates, those are still free. You dont have to pay $30, you still have the rest of the world to explore. Wait til it goes down in price and then buy it. When you log in, it will not say "Oh you didnt buy the expansion lol try again later"

You know what, i'm sure it did occur to them to make a 3rd faction. i thought about it myself.
The third faction could consist of Centaurs, murloc's, Satyr's, Naga's or whatever other monstrous humanoids are out there. Maybe ogres, centaurs, murloc's, furlbogs. But I am sure the cost vs benefit factor was probably not worth it. Don't think they didn't think of it, they are the professionals not you.
A 3rd faction would include so much additional work especially in balancing that it probably wouldn't be worth it. Whereas 2 new classes would be tough, but not as much as a new faction which would call for a whole horde of new towns, NPC's, history, and gifs.
Anyway, they should make it so you can do 1v1 duels vs alliance and have permannet death, money, or items be the reward or punishment to the winner or loser. That wouldn't take much time and would increase the pull of the game tremendously. I'd love to destroy a few annoying alliance on my server.

I agree ..this billing method is outdated. Games like Lineage2 charge for subscription but do not charge for expansions. Guild Wars charges for expansions but not for subscriptions.
Payment plans for MMOs should follow one of the other as above. Not both. Blizzard makes TONS of money off subscriptions and anybody that argues that it's only enough to cover for server and maintenance is wayyyyy off.

Every MMORPG sells its expansions. WoW gives out plenty of free conent...its only right that they sell an expansion every now and then. I wouldn't say Blizzard is extremely greedy. I would just say that WoW does not impress me much. I own the game and I don't even play it. However, I can't say that its not a great game for other players. Its just not my thing. Right now I am turned off to all MMORPGs because I am really sick of the $15 a month thing. Sure thats the price of a night out on the town but I would much rather do the night out on the town and have the fun with my friends then to waste that money on a computer addiction every month.
