Good game BUT...

The game is very noob unfriendly.  I got the trial and started playing Friday.  It took me Friday until sunday to figure out wtf I was doing.  The welcomers on the island suck, the tutorials suck, and as a noob to the game the skill tree is just mind boggling.  There is no one on the noob island to help you and the game website has no information.  As a noob you basically level up, put points into something, and wondering why half of the skillz dont do jack sh8t.  LIke I said, it took me 3 days that stanzas werent skills that you can click no and use and it took me another day to figure out you can combine skills.  I think the game is great but I can understand why a lot of people wont make it past the 14 day trial.

well you could try the game basic's section on the main site, player made guides and newcomer area on forum, ingame help system, ingame support to chat with guides, asking in region for help? ;)

but even with lots of help the game is complex, there is a lot to learn and take in, even after a few months you'll be learning new stuff :) It was 8 months before i started playing around with macros.. now i use targeting macro's for example and they made my life so much more efficient i can't believe it took me so long to discover them. But then thats part of appeal i think - there is nothing simplistic, nothing is spoon fed to players. whats given to you initially in terms of UI, actions, quests, etc is nowhere near optimal. it's all their to be tinkered with and improved. some love that, others not so keen :p

Most people love to find out how things work.
Always better then easy games like wow wich has the same gameplay as 100 other games.

Well I did go through the guides and they are ok but not great.  If you take a game like WOW or a more complex game like EVE, I can go straight to the forums and find out about stuff.  I check the ryzom forums and the newcomer section is literally 2 pages long(thats not large) and the general help...i read bak 5 pages and nothing that could really help me.  They have no search function that i saw but the players are helpful if you ask them.

Heh, forum navigation sucks a bit. On most pages you can find forum navigation menu bottom right corner.

    There is a search option

You should check player made guides section as newcomer welcome board is quite new beast in forums and does not contain long history.

And most important, you should note that display options default to show only threads for last month. This is a bit problem with guide sections as good guides have been written long time ago. Check bottom left corner of forum and select "From the: beginning" and click "show threads".

Don't forget to edit your spells/skills every once in awhile.  If you get new stanzas in one spell they can be used to upgrade existing skills/spells.  Right click on your action bar and hit "create new action".  That's cool to figure out how the whole system works.  One of the best systems out there btw.  Not for the timid.
