I'd never heard of this before, but after having a look at the forum I think this is a hugely overambitious project that is very unlikely to ever see the light of day. Design by committee rarely works. Plus will it really be better than Planetside or just different and therefore better for some but worse for others?
As ever, there's really not much point in getting excited about anything this far from release, but I'll keep an eye on it with interest.
Doing some google surfing I saw this link, though anyone here might like an update.

And it's not design by committee, there is a development team (check the site for the profiles) and the forums are used for interacting with the community and to harvest their ideas and use the combined brainpower of hundreds to glean the few gems instead of thinking just 10 or so people can think of it all.

It's not that bad... It's kinda good. But... One hitbox for whole char is kinda old. I hated that in PS. So lame... You get no reward for your pr0 uber aim.
Ofc. they have very little to show... So I don't know. 2 concept art that don't even look very good imho.
Still better then nothing... But game is very far away from getting to even beta or whatever.
Good luck to guys and I hope they will not get bored and just trhow it all away.
I have been following this game for a while now.. Cogburn (the main man behind the project) seems to know his stuff.. Recently the SOE DEV team tried to have a China vs USA turny, but they could not get it up and running.. Numerous crys and post on the forums for what is going wrong were unanswerd or were replied to with "We are trying to find out whats going wrong".. Well Cogburn was the one who found out what was wrong and posted the problem on the site... Sad that a player knows more about the game then this rag tag band of Devs that is left now.. And I mean Rag tag cause almost all of the original Dev team has left for one reason or another...
Anyways Versus has some very nice ideas going for it and a nice concept. He seems to want to make this into a Real FPS game agian and one with meaning... Read his FAQ's to find out what I mean, losing will actually mean something in this game. My only worries is the money problem being that he doesnt appear to have any major $$ backing for this game, I could be wrong though he could be rich for all I know. All in all its a win win for us out there that want to see more MMOFPS type games.
Edit.. I forgot to mention that this game will be Sever Side Hit Detection(SSHD) unlike Planetsides ClientSHD... Anyone who has played Planetside and been ran over by a vehicle nowhere near you or shot by someone while you where around a corner or behind a tree knows that CSHD is very inaccurate and can also be manipulated (hacked) by the Client. Plus the game engine will be a major improvement over Planetsides, so no more seeing people warp 50 feet in the air when the get near a object or hit the top of the stairs.

Best of luck to these guys, looks alot like planetside but its as if MMOFPSes have been given a second chance to whipe off the scar that PS will leave behind. I will sure as hell play this game if it makes it out, i played planetside for over 2 years and that was well....planetside!
