I think the next big revelation on the online game world will be Granado Espada. The images do speak for themselves and they anounce a new and (suposed to be) better way to control your characters.

    Let's wait and see...

Granado Espada . . . This is the very 1st time i heard of this game. Damn i really outdated

The design is very original. I definately love thier theme.

yeah Granado Espada (www.granadoespada.com) is already unique on the theme and it kind of gets away from the typical MMORPG that we see everyday (medieval, sci-fi, fantasy, etc) and rly focus on a very intresting time section. I also love the classes they made: Scout, warrior, Mage, Musketeer etc. Personnaly i think the game is already big :P

I think Vanguard will be big and have staying power. Probably the best dev team out there right now, have some great ideas so that it won't be purely a hack-n-slash kind of game. Besides combat and crafting (which won't just be button-pushing), it will be interesting to see how the diplomacy part of the game works out. It also sounds like it will have a far bigger world than any fantasy-themed MMO to explore.

    Vanguard: SOH, absolutely.

Indeed, they have the best developer team in the business due to their experience and individual talents. Alot of people comment on Vanguard (and a lot of other games for that matter) while being very UN-educated about the titles theyre slamming.

I suggest to anyone that has doubts about Vanguard: Go read the F.A.Q. and their philosophies on MMO's. Then take a trip to the media section of their site and look at the screenshots. The read up on the world of Telon, the races, the classes, as well as the size of the gameworld and the different continents that all have varying themes (European, Arabian, Asian), then come back and tell us what you think.

and to Exilio- one would think that you have a point there, but after a deeper look into what D&DO is going to be, it is my opinion that 'brand recognition' might be the only thing that saves that game. It simply does not have MANY of the key elements a next gen MMO must have to stay competative in this market.

However, since it's Dungeons and Dragons,  it will likely have a solid playerbase.

And folks, the reason why Dark and Light is the most anticipated game (#1 on the list right now) is because they support a world of unfathomable size for an MMO that is virtually there for players across the world to colonize, build cities and fortresses, defend those establishments, as well as grow into Kingdoms and Empires. PLayers can have a large impact on the world and change the face of it on a daily basis, and that is rare for an MMO. That is why many people are drawn to that game. Although, I think in the end, it will become too one dimensional, because they are weak in all other elements except PvP and RvR combat, strategy, and economy.

I have done my research on these games, and would suggest that everyone continue to do this before they judge a game by it's cover art. image

i cant understand that people still stand by WoW.. when there is OLDER mmo's that is MUCH more than WoW...

Imo there are mmorpgs that are better than WoW in every area, but that's just my opinion :)

Though the topic is "next big mmorpg".

I believe that it might be Dark and Light, or RF Online. Though the one from Sega called Phantasy Star Universe looks really promising, reminds me of FFXI, which is an amazing mmorpg in the form of content updates and balance.

Though I remember looking at DnL for many years ago and applying for beta then, this was really long ago, when their main page was in french only. It has come a long way since then, though the more hype it gets the more it will be delayed since they wanna hold up to expectations I believe, so I don't trust their release date that much.

Realisticly. I feel as if the next big MMOG's will consist of change. Games have used the Sci-Fi and Fantasy setting for some time and now that WoW has capitalized the market games that offer a change will be the next big thing.

If there is another fantasy game to make the ground breaking news it will be - Conan. The graphics are stunning, the story line, superb. Then again, from the articles Age of Conan will not be the typical MMOG as you're able to play Multi-player persistant world after you've beat it on single player (I believe).

Or then we have another fantasy setting. Spellborne. The difference is, this is the typical MMOG where you start out in the persistant world.

Next, we have the pro-hibition gang era. Complete change from the typical MMOG in the markets today. Not only is it implimenting FPS (first person shooter) elements to the game but the fights, family and money you see in movies like "The Godfather". Goon World will school them.

I'm looking to RF Online and LOTRO as the next big MMO's that I want to play
  • cadaverouscadaverous Member Posts: 1

Dark and Light will be big mainly cuz it'll be the best free mmo until the expansion comes out in 2006

DDO will probably be WoW's biggest computer mainly due to name recognition

Vanguard will capture the console gamers due to it being the first 360 MMO

However I think Hero's Journey will rock the mmo scene and make WoW seem like Everquest 1 when it comes out due to the fact that there will be TONS of things to do besides just questing farming and crafting. And the fact that the mobs will actually have intelligent A.I.

  • lunamonsterlunamonster Member Posts: 325

Vanguard probably. It's being made by the guys that made eq (well the team has changed but there are some of the old eq devs there) and reading the faq and going through a few interviews it looks pretty good and it's trying new things as well (the crafting and harvesting systems sound much better than anything I've seen then there's diplomacy, player owned ships where you can get a crew of pirates, long travel times to make each area unique, and that's all I feel like typing) granted I haven't researched a lot of other games as much but Vanguard looks pretty good.

I'm waiting anxiously for Dark and Light.  It seems the best so far that I would like to spend alot of time with.   SWG used to be the one game, but I probably won't last with the NGE.  But I'm still scouting them out.  DnD  seems to be getting alot of attention, too.  But Dark and Light will be the one, I think.

Huxley will be big, it will take alot of the PvPers that are stuck in games lacking that content

    The next big thing...

My, that is a tough one.  I had high hopes for a couple of games this past year, but one of them went broke and the other was delayed.

In all honesty, I don't see anything really innovative on the immediate horizon.  At one point I thought maybe Auto Assault would fit the bill, but some of the information floating out of the closed beta test has me puzzled, so I don't know.  I'm not ready to write it off, I just don't know.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes has an excellent pedigree.  The screenshots look good, but nothing really dazzling yet.  The landscape will certainly be topnotch, but what I've seen of the character textures is on the disappointing side.  Also, I'm not a fan of "corpse runs" and they are a fundamental design concept.  WoW folks don't seem to mind them, so maybe that will work in their favor.  Some of their ideas, like a diplomacy stat and mixed attribute/leveling advancement, are not nearly as innovative as they would like us to believe.

Trials of Ascension has some fascinating ideas behind it, but to date there has been little hard evidence of their ability to actually pull it off.  If they stick to their game plan, they will need at least 3-5000 players online at any one time in order for the game to be interesting, and there is no guarantee they will achieve that much, let alone the millions of subscribers WoW boasts.

Dark and Light fell off my list today.  Their payment scheme automatically cuts out somewhere around 30% of the global market.  A third of their potential customers, if not more, simply will not be able to remit payment.  Even if they want to, even if they can afford to.  No telling how many others will simply choose not to use that payment program.

City of Villains, where I am spending most of my time currently, is a very good game and I am enjoying it immensely.  However, it is most decidedly not aimed at a broad enough market and I strongly doubt it will achieve the numbers Crypt and NC Soft are hoping for.  Probably 2/3rds of what they are seeking, but not the whole of it.  Of course, that's just my own personal guess.  Time could easily prove me wrong.

I had hoped that Lineage II would be carrying the field right about now, but their inability to curtail the impact of the secondary market and the widespread use of L2Walker has driven off their legitimate customer base.  I'm afraid that one is going nowhere.  Not shutting down, certainly not, but probably not getting any bigger.

RF Online came out of left field last year and swept through Asia like gangbusters.  If (very big if) Codemasters can pull off a successful NA/Euro release next spring then they will be in a strong position to give EQ2 a run for its money, and might even send the final death blow to Lineage II.  WoW will certainly feel some pain, but their numbers are so huge it would take a couple of RF Onlines before Blizzard even noticed.  Also, 2/3rds of RF Online is Sci-Fi themed, so SWG and EVE might wind up contributing people as well.

I'm not convinced Tabula Rasa is going anywhere, despite the involvement of Richard Garriot.  Perhaps it will sweep the field and take everyone by surprise, but I kinda doubt it.

Part of the problem, see, is actually you and I.  When developers come to us and ask us what we want, very few of us can offer any clear answers.  "Something different" doesn't tell them anything.  Before we see any big changes in this field, we the players are going to have to figure out what it is we are actually looking for in a new game.

    "I want PvP," doesn't help.

    "I don't want any more UO-clones," doesn't help.

"I don't want to be constantly ganked," doesn't help either.

Until the players can clearly articulate what is it they do want, game developers will have only their own experiences and ideas to draw upon.  So far, not a single one of those ideas (except for CoH and maybe Auto Assault) has been dramatically creative.

The next big thing?  In all honesty, I don't think there's going to be one.  Then again, I never expected WoW to be as successful as it has been.  I actually expected it to be a pretty minor contender.

Without saying what specific game may be the "Next Big One" among the billyuns and billyuns of ones coming out in the next 1-3 yrs, I would have to say that there are some heavy-duty issues that would, at the very least help:

Stop equipment and player farming, courtesy of our underpaid-but-happy-to-make-money in [pick an Asian/sw asian country here] and thereby defeating the money-hungry backers who run the shows comes first to mind.

You could have dragons flying out of your monitor slapping you in the face, but if some of the fundemental issues are not fixed (or at least plugged), we're just going to have the same old stuff, bassically.
