Personally I don't believe anyone will ever beat or come close to WoW at 6.5 mil subs. and why?
Because there are way too many games coming out in the next 2 years that will target certain audiances.
Wow will keep the fanboi's
TabulaRasa will attract a good portion of the FPS'ers (alot of my wow guild is going there assuming they do have a pvp enviorment and finish it this time lol)
Vangaurd will attract the more RPG style players
You may have star trek online by then were the trekies will go and then some
SWG2 may be produced by 2008-2009 attracting SW fans (maybe depends on SOE's involvment in it)
If the rumor of bio-ware working on a kotr style mmo is true then there's a few more lightsaber fanboi's gone
LOTR will attract their fan base
Cabal online will attract grind fest uber charecter loving crowds plus quite a few more I beta'ed it and it was really fun just alot of grinding later in the game with level cap at over 150 and skill grind requirements...
There is so many in the works that it will be nearly impossible for WoW numbers unless they all screw up and release them all way too early which there is a very probable chance of that too.
My bet is that when WoW's numbers start to drop they will drop very drasticly and very very fast.
From what spellborn are saying it could be big But Ive seen many games that seemed like the next big thing and when they came out i went right back to playing wow. I have so many mmo's just colecting dust Played a few of them for quite a while others i barly played at all int he end i still went back to wow. So all i have to say is lets see if it lives up to the promises. I have hope for this game but im not going to sing its praises untill i have played it for myself.
If BLizzard didn't completely rape me with my account ( was hacked, lost my character, wont give it back cause it was my fault some how ) I would still be with WoW.
Like a few posts up there are some MMOs coming out with some big names attached to the titles.
Star Trek Online: Hell i may even want to at least try that. LotR: That will get a good base
Personally I think Warhammer online. For the simple fact that you can wear the skull of someone you beat as a helmet or use a door from a house as a shield.
i know it wont be out for a while but has anybody thought about darkfall cause i know that it has alot of things that ppl including me are looking for in a mmorpg
Darkfall has been very very quiet on..well..everything, so its really hard to make any judgements on it. The general concept is good though.
I disagree with LOTRO. It may have the fan boy hype that lots of franchises have, but I have yet to see anything fantastic design wise, that isnt already overshadowed by another game. I stand by my previous predictions of RO2, possibly Warhammer, and Tabula Rasa.
Originally posted by boognish75 i have heard multiple rumors of earth and beyond2 , i am an ecstatic fan of the origonal and currently in swg, if anyone can confirm this i would love to hear.
There are no rumors of EnB2. Some guy made it up. Tell me you are not serious. Link Please
I would have to say Warhammer online, for the reason is the WoW people that want to get away will think this is similar. I play WoW still now, but can not wait to some thing new comes out that will sweep the market. I will be keeping my eye on 2Moons personally.
If EnB2 came out I imagine at least half of its playerbase would be back. Could you imagine what the ships would look like with the graphics cards now? That and planet flight. Theyd need to have some sort of Starbase system added though. Bigger ships. Competing for space and control of resources would be nice. Other then that I think the game had alot going for it.
im still not shure what will be, tho one think i know is i dont allways like this over focus on pvp. i dont think vanguard stands a chance add in elements of the original eq ie corpse runs and that alone will piss off alot of players. rf looks cool but i havent tried it, i realy think spellborn and a few others will give wow a big smack in the grill. i think alot of people are looking to take the training wheels off their mmo's now.

mmmm no. I don't like waiting 5 minutes between spells and/or sword swings. And the graphics woulda been laughable in 1999. But thanks for coming
And I have to say, if they ever do make an Earth and Beyond 2, I will have to play it. Never played the original, but as much as everybody who played it seemed to love it, how could I not try it?
Also, any further mention of Dark and Light other than to bash it for the scum it is will result in 100 lashings from Roseanne Barrs' tongue after you have been coated in liberal amounts of bacon grease to get her full attention.
By the looks of the posts in this thread and my own personal opinion I believe that Vanguard and Chronicles of Spellborn stand a high chance in becoming the new hit MMO's. I want to try out both, but currently am leaning more towards Chronicles of Spellborn. Time will tell. *Can't wait for Chronicles of Spellborn Open Beta in January* ^^;
Originally posted by Jennbee I think we'll see a mass exodus from WoW as new titles start coming out in the months ahead. Cant say for sure where the players will go, but if I had a nickel everytime I heard someone say, "I'm just waiting till something better comes out to quit WoW", well then...i'd have a shiatload of nickels
I've beta tested alot of new MMORPGS and sadly nothing comes close to WoW. Vanguard was the core of all my hope and after playing it for a bit, all I can say is, that game needs ALOT of improvement, specially at its programming. So now all my hopes shift towards Warhammer online. Which brings me to a question, how come its not listed at MMORPG.com game list yet ?
There is no other but SUN - Soul of the Ultimate Nation. That's the game that will take over the gaming world after it is released!!! There are many games that try to achieve something big in the trade business. However, few do it! I think that game will reveal the true vision of a real MMORPG that takes your breath away...

LOTR will die a slow horrible death at the hands of Turbine shitty Games... exactly like DDO and AC2... where do they keep getting all this money?
