I think we'll see a mass exodus from WoW as new titles start coming out in the months ahead. Cant say for sure where the players will go, but if I had a nickel everytime I heard someone say, "I'm just waiting till something better comes out to quit WoW", well then...i'd have a shiatload of nickels :)

I bet you Ragnarok Online 2 will become huge.  Just wait until TGS this month for more info.  I can't even describe the hype for this game, but trust me.  When you start seeing media for RO2 pouring out on the net (which should be fairly soon) then you'll be hooked.  That's my prediction.

DnL to me anyway feels like Horizons all over again

of course this is from the standpoint of a closed beta tester *Alert NDA police*

hopefully they fix a few key issues like the combat animation , ui , etc... before open beta if such a beta were to even exist

i would really luv to buy and subscribe to this game but so far it just feels like im reliving the days of Horizions

as for ur question V:SoH definately seems to me to be a company (sigil) and a game on the right track

true they arent going to revolutionize the industry with an entirely unique and new way to play mmorpgs but they have some good ideas on what mmorpgs should be and are really tryin to break away from the run of the mill "eq clone" gameplay all of us are familiar with

It will be Vanguard SOH, it will be on XBOX 360 and PC. It will be the WoW competition.

But I would personally like for it to be Chronicles of Spellborn

It all depends on marketing and of course online communities like this. MMORPG.com is a huge influence on what happens to a game. IMO word of mouth + discussion boards like this=make or break a game.

yea i saw some screenshots of The Chronicles of Spellborn and that looks really nice, hopefully its better system than in WoW and then will Spellborn be next huge game.

  • Next huge hype game will be RFonline.  The game in Korea/Jp is super crazy hyped over there and when they hit the states in October...people will leave thier current mmorpgs.  Just my opinion and not a fact.

Codemasters is handling it, they are based out of the UK, so I'm pretty sure that they will have EU servers.

I would have to say Spellborn as well. They took the "hey, were not big, so lets be original" concept that The Saga of Ryzom took. Hopefully, they will have more of a workable game than Ryzom was though. Ryzom was a great game, just not enough.

I think Age of Conan will be the next big thing.. There going after the mature crowd in this one, which will alow them to have a more realistic environment.  Also I believe Funcom learned there lesson from Anarchy Onlines launch, AO's launch was horrible but the expansion after launched pretty smoothed compared to other MMORPG's expansion.  Plus AO turned out to be a real indepth game which I believe AOC will be as well.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

DDO without a doubt..how can anyone suggest Dark & Light? DDO is being built by a top dev, it has inasane brand recognition...DDO is the next hot MMO...I am not saying it'll be better than DL, but it will have more buzz.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Dark & Light only have 3 base classes at the moment to choose from...

I don't see what the big deal is there.

  • DismantledDismantled Member UncommonPosts: 121

DnD will be the next big "thing" just because of the name. TBH i dont really see any MMOS in dev that can beat WoW. Now i hate WoW but everyone here knows about how big it is. Id like to see Huxley be a break out hit but it would seem the sci-fi community in MMOs is lacking :(

vanguard soh is the next big game, it has all of the ambition of DnL, and the funding of microsoft. they want to be known as the id software of mmorpgs, which is a good thing. But really, the dev team is small, well payed, talented, and dedicated. Many of the best names for mmos are in this game.

hey Tyzen.. RF online is already spoiled in Korea.....
  • TigerReiTigerRei Member UncommonPosts: 141

Too early to tell. I dont want to go off hype, but if you were to ask me, I think Star Trek Online has a good chance.

  • saydursaydur Member UncommonPosts: 185

For pure hype, RF Online, DnL, DnD, and Ragnarok Online 2 all have a good chunk of that going for them.

However, for what has potential to grow into a huge game with mainstream recognition, it's DnD Online for certain. Name recognition is key. Ragnarok Online 2 has some good potential to become big, but moreso globally than in NA.

Really, if any of the four offer solid gameplay, a strong community, and are generally fun, they'll probably get really big. If none of them are exceptionally strong in such categories, it'll really be a matter of which one gets the word of mouth strength, and that's almost certainly DnD Online. WoW is still burning bright though, it'll need to fade a lot for something to steal the spotlight, unless some game shows up as exceptionally strong.

Games like RF and DnL can get somewhere in the MMO community, but getting widespread gamer recognition is pretty difficult. Marketing is expensive, and a failed MMO is a lot pricier than a regular failed game.

Mark my words though, key points are an original engine, strong community, good graphics AND sound, and varied things to do outside of combat grind.

The Chronicle maybe one to look at. It has alot going for with 27 playable races and allowing skills to improve as they’re used. This game may not get the hype the others will but it should be a sleeper game that most people should be able to enjoy.

I think if you're talking from now to 6months...It'll prolly be RFonline.

The game sucks you rarely quick into RvR, and people are gonna be amazed at the immensely laggy, and overhwhelmingly populated crystal wars get.

It'll hold itself really high first 2months.  It's been that way every Open Beta and first few months every one of the open betas in other countries.

Problem is...the game lasting long will depend on the game server and adding on updates.

The japanese one is doing great right now, with masamune shirow (the guy responsibel for classics such as GITS,AppleSeed...etc) designing in-game armors and weapon solely for the japanese version...

If the Codemaster Inc. UK can incorporate good updates and event's and provide good service RFonline can hold up there.

The reason the korean RFonline fell down shortly after server was due to crappy service and no considerable updates.

    Updates that were actually good came later, so not many coustomers really returned...-_-;;
