I'mma be honest, as much as I love ARPGs, my hype level for this is about... a 5 or a 6/10. I've got a lot to play, and a lot of promising new ARPGs are all coming out, and they all look more interesting than a poor man's Lost Ark (which was a poor man's Marvel Heroes).
POE2 is just so much better and its not even done yet. lol

The only thing Blizzard has been good at in the last 20 years has been taking already created ideas and improving on them. They did the exact opposite with Diablo 4 and as a result we received a giant steaming pile of trash... The base game + first expansions would not even be acceptable in my opinion as a completed game.
Well I guess that one billion dollars the game made doesn't stretch very far in this economy. Sad to see such a juggernaut of gaming degrade into such a pathetic dumpster fire of money grubbing fucks.
As the standard for prior Diablo games was one expansion ever having to wait an extra year for the second one isn't all that devastating. The current season is quite nice as well so if they can maintain that standard in the interim the wait will be easy to bear.
While I am a big fan of PoE2 it is not going to kill Diablo 4 or anything else for that matter. It's a very different game that appeals to a very different demographic. Saw plenty of people in PoE2 chat run screaming back to D4 after running into the first boss in PoE2. I've seen plenty of PoE1 fans declare PoE2 DOA. I personally love PoE2 and can't wait for more content and classes, but I'm not the majority of gamers. It's very off-putting to a lot of people. A twin stick souls like with ARPG loot.
I like that the expansion was released late, just to have a totally broken class, no real new end game, and no Mephisto boss fight....and now the next release will be already out of the 'annual release' originally promised.
Then again, anyone that knows Overwatch 2 story should know not to trust anything promised and not delivered from this company.

I've been playing on the Marvel Heroes emulated server called T.A.H.I.T.I. They still have a lot of work to do but it's very playable now.
D4 is probably the most disappointing ARPG ever given the massive budget and endless monetization. The last two seasons have been complete trash and I expect the next one to be the same.
It's clear that they:
Have no clue what they are doing and this is not a labor of love at all.
Planned on having ALL big updates delivered just with paid expansions
See $40 paid expansions as minimally viable products
At this point they need massive improvements that don't require buying expansions. They've taken enough money with box sales, battle passes and expensive MTX.
There are so many more fun ARPGs to play these days.
My Diablo-style hopes rest on Dragonkin: The Banished launching next month. Very much under the radar game with incredible potential.
So, I've seen it, it looks good, but I don't see what gives it more incredible potential than other indie ARPGs like Dark Awakening, Last Epoch, Ash & Rust

Most of that 1 Billion were sales prior to the game launching or just after it launched... I promise you if people were aware how bad the game was going to be, like 70% of those sales would have never happened.
This game is way too fucking basic. Plus, they make content for leagues and then its a giant waste after its over because they don't fold it back into the main game. Colossal waste of design effort and overall the game is just boring AF.
Its been less than 2 years and game is already at the state D3 was by the end. Torment XXV (150 rifts) being one shoted by most classes. More than 3 full inventories of drops in a single run. Cache drops inside cache drops that take more than 30 seconds tot fully drop.
It's sad cause I grew up loving D1 and D2 but this IP is no longer viable nor worthy.

I actually don't mind fast loot / xp(I do mind how D2 in specific disrespects your time), but it simply has to lead somewhere. D4's itemization is ... confused, especially compared to D2.
Yet another game that was hyped to the hills, got great reviews and had posters on here jumping on anyone who raised major concerns about it. Gamers need to wise up, don't believe what you are being told, wait for proper launch, watch the videos, read the reviews, check Steam reviews if the game has them, we have become victims of gaming fashion.
D4, in its current season, is just a grind. Everything is a grind and what I mean by that is I have to go out of my gameplay loop to grind what they want me too. Blizzard was always great about letting players play the way they want. I am sorry but in this latest season the story makes no sense, its uninspired and honestly its way too much loot. I know that sounds weird but it was constant and I had to decide to leave loot on the ground and level or port back to town every 5-10 minutes. Sadly 90% of the loot was useless too but thats another story.
D4 checks a lot of boxes but they made some really dumb design decisions with the game that detracts from it. But for me, the dealbreaker was the lag. It was horrible and at times, unplayable. Combine that with missing classes from D2, and it just want not fun. Its sad I would rather play 5-10 year old games in the same style (like Grim Dawn, Titan's Quest, Last Epoch) than play D4.

Last Epoch is new though. But yes, it's like 1,000x better.
I downloaded the demo remotely today and will play it when I get home tonight. All I am wanting is an old school style game like these so my expectations are low.

I see. I can't help you there because I very much don't like old school ARPGs (defined as those that take their inspiration from D1 and D2 specifically).
I don't see the likes of Grim Dawn or Last Epoch as old school in any way.

I would agree. I would say, in the genre, D2 and Titan's Quest are my favs. Grim Dawn is okay but after that I lost a lot of interest in the genre. The new school games are much more involved with many systems and gameplay loops. I like the explore, level, get loot, get more skills, fight a boss, repeat loop but with a modern QOL spin.
I feel the same way with RTS games like Age if Empires, Rise of Nations, etc... Keep it simple and straight-forward.

I think it goes back to player expectations, especially with “rewards “(I cringe whenever I read that word) being such a great expectation.
I suspect a player playing it will without knowing anything about the other games would be fine.

I would rather play mods for D2 than this game unless there is a BIG content drop. At least Lord of Destruction big.
