I play with a controller on PS5 and it is so smooth. However, I play SSF. Occasionally when i play standard with the wife it is weird trying to help her on her laptop.
I didn't even know we could play with controller. o__o
When early access started i looked around and couldn't find the option to turn it on, was this something added just recently? Or is it like one of those 'hidden' things that a control ui magical appears if one plugs in a pc controller and hit's a button?
Reason i ask because i really REALLY do not want to reinstall POE2 again; as it just feels..... rough and not fun, yet.

I am playing City of Heroes on Homecoming with a controller. Had to convert some of the AOE place attack on ground to one click versions with macros but yeah can be done if you redo the mapping. Not sure about POE but I played POE with the attacks on the KB and that worked too. Not sure how good the controllers are on POE2. However Last Epoch worked not all that well because certain things just worked poorly with the controller.

So when you turn on the game, it registers what you log in with controller or kb+mouse. Once you've selected your character with one of the options you can't change it in-game and have to log out and log back in. But it's been there since the beginning

I prefer games that allow me to use the controller and KB and mouse at the same time. I can do that in WoW and also in City but some games lock you out of one mode which sucks.

At the same time, is that switching to look after your hands? No matter what you use years of gaming take their toll regardless.
No I use the controller only for combat and moving around the map. To navigate menus and everything else the KB and mouse. I also have a bd habit of adjusting the camera with the mouse while using the left stick to move.
I was doing the Positron TF and it was getting quite tricky at times to jump out of the way but because I can simultaneously use both the controller and mouse it was very much easier.
If a game locks me out of one mode I cannot play it like Genshin Impact.

This here!
I prefer to play POE with a controller when it comes to moving around and combat but then I prefer to use my mouse and keyboard when using menus, storage etc etc.
There really is no good reason for a game to lock you out, and force you to log off and back on, rather then just allow the game to detect which input you are using and to auto switch to that.
Seriously it is a no brainer.

I haven't played PoE2, but in PoE1, the developers seemed to be strongly against letting anyone use a controller to play their game. Trying to overcome the developers actively trying to stop you from doing what you want to do is a steep hill to climb.
