I do think we’ll get SQ42 - they’re already «delaying» it further by splitting it into 3 «episodes» - i have a feeling the entire «SQ42» will be the «intro» to CU statement will be hard to pull off as they’re not even done with the second star system.
SQ42 was always a trilogy.
It's actually quite bigger than what it was meant to be, because the original SQ42 was the this part one, then "mission packs" dlc that expanded upon the game.
So this SQ42 we're getting is not the original one split, it's the original one expanded into a full standalone game, with the sequels meant to be the same isntead of mission DLC packs. It also takes place on its own star system which is created aside of SC's stuff, after all the campaign is not a full open world.

It was pitched like Wing Commander was. Wing Commander launched with the game and a "Secret Missions" expansion that was included for those that pre-ordered. Yeah somewhere along the line they did away with the mission discs.
What has annoyed me to no end is the move away from the original promise. It was sold as an OFFLINE (their emphasis below) game that you could play with friends. Now, as far as I know, it's an online only game that you can't play with your friends. And it was supposed to be a sort of prelude to Star Citizen that let you start that game with some credits and your Citizenship.
From Kickstarter:
Squadron 42 - A Wing Commander style single player mode, playable OFFLINE if you want
Playable offline or online, co-op with friends, you sign up for a tour of duty with the UEE fleet, manning the front lines, protecting settlements from Vanduul warbands.
That is really all I have ever wanted...

But the original deal is unaltered Making The Best Space Sim Game Ever: by Chris Roberts.
That gamers flocked to fund it is just another testament to the greatness of his genius!
That most of it's most passionate haters were the ones that helped him get his dream game off the ground is just the cherry on top
And that they'll have to suck on that for the rest of their lives being the olive on top! Bitter bitter
Naw, just waiting for the day when we can dance over the grave of this failed endeavour.
It's no even in the top 10 most widely played MMOs being discussed on any mainstream sites. I wouldn't count that weird player number site that with questionable player count numbers on all the games listed. No one seems to pay attention to that site except SC fans trying to pretend the game is more popular then World of Warcraft.

LOL, no games to play indeed, 1667 hours in 7D2D since last June.
My 10+ years in alpha game is better than your 10+ years in alpha game.
Neither will probably ever release.
I do raise an eyebrow at anyone playing a game that has not properly launched, but ten years playing a game is always going to be better than ten years paying for a game and still waiting for it to launch!

Ten years playing a game (one of many) .... check ! (=Star Citizen)
It does not matter if a game has "properly launched". If you have fun with your friends and the game, it does what it was created for. For me personally that is the case when it comes to Star Citizen.
The reality is the project exists entirely outside of my sphere of concern - it is a non-entity to me outside of the forum wars. If they go onto blistering success or if they crater, both only merit a shoulder shrug as far as I'm concerned.
My default to is hope they succeed simply from the perspective of jobs and money spent.

To clarify, 10+ years is how long both games have been in development.
I purchased 7D2D on a Steam sale back in early 2017 but never gave it a try until last summer when it became apparent the game may never actually release in the traditional sense.
Even with the upcoming new console version this year (2nd one btw) it still will be based on Alpha 22 and not considered as released.
I've not played Star Citizen, don't really want to, but SQ42 is something I think I might like.
To be fair, Star Citizen's could quite likely be having a great time playing it as is today, same as I'm doing with 7D2D.
Sure, there's bugs, poor optimization and missing content, yet still, I just enjoy building large bases (and I normally loath building and crafting), riding around the world and love shooting zombies in the head, even when theres no particular reason (progression mechanic) to do so.
I imagine Star Citizen's enjoy doing pretty much the same same thing, well, with more flying and less zombies....their loss.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
I still haven't fully decided if it's real or if its some kind of Goon deep cover false flag operation.
