Star Citizen was one of the earliest MMO scams and continues to be. Only Chris would work to milk every whale out there while funding his little amateur film making and expensive lifestyle. Once the game eventually fails to come out, or comes out as a buggy failing mess like The Day Before, people will see that most crowdfunded MMOs are either SCAMs or MUCH WORSE than teased.

People are always calling for regulation and lawsuits and everything under the sun. I'm usually against this, because I think people should be able to spend their money however they want. I still think this, but if any game deserves some investigation, it's Star Citizen.

What would they be investigated for? Unlike some companies claiming to be making a game they've actually had something playable for a long time. If anyone questions them all they need do is point to that as evidence that they are indeed working on it.

If somebody feels a $48k package for the game is worth the money nobody is in a position to gainsay their purchase of it.

Boondoggle.  Very expensive running in place, with some incremental advances.  And a history of lies (or more charitably, overpromising) that makes any claim automatically suspect.

At least it is more cost effective than a Zumwalt Destroyer.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I don't really see this as anything new.

There have always been products and services for people with a LOT of money.

I do think it's short sighted to create games around whales as it's easy enough for the next big thing to come along and suddenly your audience leaves and your revenue dries up.

Just another reason why I don't really believe in free to play.

Players by now should know that their digital "property" is not secure and could vanish overnight, even if the game was launched and a great game I would be saying that. But to stomp up this sort of money for a game that has not launched is barmy.

656 Million ?! And they still can't release the dern game. Yeah if you buy into that you deserve for your wifey and kids to leave you!. Have fun sleeping at night in your ship! lol
NOT EVEN If I actually had the moola to buy into this scam stuffs. With that amount of money they have "raised" that game should have been out a long arse time ago. I guess it's enough for those peeps that buy into it, to have a game that will never get finished at this rate.

Many love to go on, and on about how The Day Before was supposedly a scam, yet the thing is, if it was meant as a scam, after those initial game concept videos were released, and got so many really psyched, that's when they would have asked for money, as crowd funding, or pre-orders, then ran off with that money. They didn't, instead they didn't ask for money from players until they had something to sell, it was just shit, then likely the publisher arranged things with Valve/Steam so first anyone, regardless of play time could get a refund, then that everyone would get a refund automatically, regardless of if they asked for it, or not. Realistically, the only ones being scammed through that whole fiasco were the devs, and publisher/investor, as the devs fooled themselves, and the publisher into thinking they were capable of making the game in those concept videos, when they most certainly were not.

Here, Star Citizen has not been released, Squadron 42 has also not been released. Both have missed planed release dates, until they just gave up on forecasting such things, and there's no reason to believe either will come out any time soon. I don't care if there's a playable demo/test version, that's not a released game, yet they have been asking for money, for over ten years now, and absurd amounts of it.

It is absolutely ludicrous to ask players for $48k US for any sort of in-game asset. People complain about lots of things sold in games, as part of the problem is that some of the people spending stupid amounts of money on them, DON'T actually have that kind of money to spend on games. They have impulse control issues, so make purchases on things that they simply can't afford, and devs know this. It's safe to bet some of the people buying these absurd packages, will also fall into that category. Beyond that, from what I gather, some such packages that have been sold in the past, are still not usable in the test version, and it's entirely possible this one will not be ready for use until who knows when as well.

Meaning, they're asking for up to absurd amounts of money, from people they know may not be able to financially absorb such expenses, when the things they are selling may not be usable for who knows how long, for a game that may never be released, as there is the possibility that this is something that they aren't actually trying to finish. Plus, Chris, and his family may just take what money they can, and run at some point. There's just too much going on worthy of concern.

Government investigations, and regulations are meant to set standards, and protect the common citizen from inappropriate conduct by companies. Even IF they every actually release a game, and even IF it turns out well, there is still plenty of reasons to put restrictions in place to prevent such a thing from being allowed to go on this long again, as we should all knew very well, there will be those that WILL abuse such things to just get money, and run with it.

Defenders of things like this, and Ashes of Creation like to say it's "normal" for these things to take a long time. In about the time Star Citizen has been in the works, NCSoft effectively made Throne and Liberty twice, as it started as one game, then became what it is now, a process that has been called "development hell." Yet as much as NCSoft are a bunch of scum bags, even they didn't ask for money from players until they were ready to release a release ready game, and none of their pre-release packages even remotely came close to $48K US. Congrats RSI, you're worse than NCSoft.

Just so we are clear, the 48k package has been around since forever. This isn't new this is just click bait. The thing is you wouldn't see this package until you've reached a certain level of financial investment into the development of the game. This basically gets you every ship and vehicle in the game which is around 230 ships and vehicles twice so you end up with 460 ships and vehicles as well as all the "Skins" and other fancy looking stuff.

Though you only do this if you want to. As it stands, the current amount of in game income allows you to purchase every single ship that is flyable in game in probably around 2-3 days of play. So what you spend, is purely your choice. There are maybe 3 ships in the game that are flyable that are not sold in game and all of them are ships CIG made when they worked with companies like Microsoft and AMD and those ships are all solo single seater combat ships that really are just for looks.

I knew ignorants and supporters will come with this idiocricy : "..but you donz haz to buyz it!!!"

Well , based on this..ideology, neither P2W items in a cash shop game..you don't have to buy it. But they do make harm.

    Got it? I hope so.

But anyway, even if its "old package" or "new package" , 48k $ in ANY game , no matter what the heck you are buying its .. pathetic, idiocricy , stupidity ...you name it.

If you come to me and tell me with a straight face that a game who sells 48k packs will be amazing, fair, etc, i will /spit you!

..and then I'm sure (some) same people who supports this kind of sales, have negatively commented ..somewhere, about Diablo 4 $70 being ...expensive ! /facepalm
