I always thought Spelljammer was kind of trying to fit a square into a circle as far as D&D

There is nothing wrong with taking the DnD system to new genres of fantasy, science fiction and indeed any fiction. But when DnD does this it takes all the baggage of a game made for medieval fantasy and tries to make the genre fit the shoe. That is always going to be a poor fit.

Well it was more than applying it to new genres. It was literally a system to take your medieval fantasy character into space.  On flying open top ships…

Everyone always gets excited whenever Spelljammer would get mentioned.

I guess I'm the only one that never played it so really have no oomph to check it out.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

One of the issues these DnD expansions have always had is they insist on being designed both in lore and rules so your existing characters can play in them. Sometimes they need a degree of conversion but you can nearly always just drop them into a new world. That's plain daft and belittles the new world.
