Baldur's Gate 3

Honestly surprised nobody made a thread about this new game yet ?

It seems to be wildly successful, having broken into the top 10 of games of Steam basically right off the bat.

So a huge success. Very much like Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn, back in its day, really.

I'm happy people still apprechiate a well done hardcore roleplaying game.

We are getting umpteen articles and as this deals with BG3 the adbots are no doubt incoming.

BG3 is just the new flavor of the month and since it has explicit content and a dildo/grass slider in char creator, hoards of horny teenagers are jumping on it and review bombing it with high scores.

Like always and with every game (just like what happened recently with D4), just wait till the honeymoon period is over and the rose tinted glasses come off.

More and more people are reaching Act.2 now and discover how riddled it is with bugs.
No surprise since we only had Act.1 in Early Access for 3 years.

So lets just see in a couple weeks how many people are still playing.

Eh when I found out it had turn based combat I was out. Nothing more boring and tedious to me. I realize others love it. Then there's the whole bit where the devs are all proud of themselves for including beastiality with a bear like they're accomplishing something with that other than declaring publicly they're a bunch of sick fucks. Beastiality is illegal in most countries for a reason. Looking forward to the expansion that adds romantic relationships with goats and sheep. Anyway I'm not surprised the game sells well. Drop a pile of shit and in no time it'll be covered in flies.

I should add I'm enjoying it very much. I like games where, if I make a miscalculation my party can wipe.

It's almost as if there weren't a "nudity off" toggle and romancing a druid in beast form was mandatory lol.

It's a great game but, true to form, the crowd here just wants to dump on everything.

Bestiality isn't okay and it shouldn't be an option in the game, unless you are okay with Nazis, white supremacy, and racism being depicted favorably - because either these things impact people who play these games, or they do not impact people who play these games.

I'm tired of artists claiming that art can change minds, alter the course of society, and have a real impact on mankind when selling a painting, yet the moment a school shooter identifies an artist as inspiration the artist quickly throws out the "it is just art" line, pretending his work is inconsequential, uninspiring, and impotent.

When selling: Art is powerful.
When dodging responsibility: Art is inconsequential.

So sure, have a bear fuck scene - and forever surrender any rational grounds for criticizing any game, book, or artwork that triggers you - regardless of content.  It is all just LOLz.

Gotta pick one, guys - or live as a hypocrite.

If a game had a strong pro-white supremacy theme, but offered a "turn off white supremacy" toggle, you'd be okay selling it to people?

If a toggle for offensive material doesn't work for all offensive material, why not?

I'm addressing the issue head on and asking questions.

This would be something else than name calling (snowflake) or excluding people from the discussion (invitation bow out).

Feel free to address the questions I asked, unless they're too much for you, in which case, maybe you're the snowflake?

I happen to think these questions are worth asking.  I can understand, from the gamer viewpoint, as to why they'd be concerning.  Who wants to have entertainment censored by the state?  I'm fully aware that this stuff raises ire because of attempts to regulate games in the past.  I know I'm not a huge fan of the idea.

But at some point, we as a society need to draw a line in the sand and not cross it.  If we draw that line, it needs to be able to withstand scrutiny - that is, it needs to be rational and consistent.

It is fair to ask:

If I should be okay with a developer releasing bestiality porn, then can I expect you to leave me alone while I enjoy a developers release of [insert whatever appalls you here]?

Imagine a game called "Slave Catchers" where you play a white, southern slave hunter and you get points for all sorts of unseemly acts.  The game is rife with racism, misogyny, and hate symbols... and it glorifies these things as entertaining and fun.

Would you be okay with several million people playing that game?

If you objected to that game should I just "LOL" and call you a "snowflake" and invite you to leave the debate because you simply don't get it?

It was actually a bugbear and a troll and yes, it was hard to miss

In the same area, I managed to talk 4 other trolls into working for me. They gave me a horn to use when I really, really really need them. Haven't used it yet.
