Stormhaven Studios has shared a state of the game blog for Embers Adrift that includes an overview of the most recent content update and the new patch, The Forgotten Depths.

It would just end up with more people that will never buy it because there is not much to do in the game, in 7 days nearly everyone that tries will never be back seriously.
They need to orient themselves in the LOTRO direction where they make a portion of the game permanently free. This way it will guarantee that at least the starting areas of the game will have players.
Even FF14 that is enjoying much success has free trial that is very generous, with their success, they don't even have to do it, but they still do.
I think a lot of these small indie developers think too highly of themselves and their product, for example Project Gorgon - an MMORPG I bought on Winter Sale 2021, but I think the price is really high and it's deterring players from it. But the developers don't care about that.
Having 37 players playing peak times is not what I consider a dead game. It was never alive to begin with.
