Are there any clear differences to having a 64-bit client, or is it mainly backend operations?

My guess is that the 64-bit client in of itself doesn't give you anything over the 32-bit client. However it allows the developers to start to add more modern features to the engine as well as higher resolution textures and more detailed models because it uncorks the 4GB RAM limit a 32-bit application has. The payoff will be down the road assuming the developers start to take advantage of it.

It totally changed how the game looks and for my character not for the better as they're / it is a lot darker even on the character selection screen.

You can easily see that the character models are 'smoother' / more filled in now from the switch.

One of the things switching to a 64bit in LotRO was it made the game run smoother.

and down the road you get what Angrakhan mentions.

Well, better late than never. Kinda tempted to revisit but my "pile of shame" says NO!

I get it. This is basically the foundation for what's to come. Hell, they might even revisit class stories. Some of them(Trooper most visibly) were rather hindered by the 32bit.

My question: any changes to the graphics?

I wanted comparison shots. I don't have 75GB+ to waste only on comparing stuff.

Fair one, only pics/videos really show how good a change it is.

Perhaps some YouTube videos are available that show before and after comparisons.

The economy is already toast. All this new initiative does is hinder new players and players who don't have billions already. The billionaires will never feel any of the effects, and credit inflation will continue. The only thing that might combat this is a bunch of pets/mounts for billions of credits. Make it cartel items, that do not unlock in the collections tab. That's the way to do it. But they'll never do it cause in the long run, they just want people to buy from the market anyways. And having great sets cost billions just means more people will spend real money to get it. Elite Corp. greed at work

They created this monster with a p2w store that allows you to sell pretty much anything and everything you buy with real money on the auction house for in game credits. Every game that allows this ends up with a crap economy.

Yeah, maybe vulkk or swtorista? Character models REALLY need an update. Not because they are bad, no, but because they, geniuses, started using more advanced textures on characters like Vaylinn, Valkorion etc.
