    Talk about failed expectations

Because it's possible to complete a MMORPG that doesn't exist at all yet, in under 1 year. 2019 was an initial estimation, not a promise, a wildly unrealistic estimation to be sure but an estimation none the less. Anyone who took that estimation and expected that to happen set themselves up for their own failed expectations.

Talk about Your own failed expectations.*
IMO game's shaping up faster and faster, and with each new dev. update they show a promising title that just requires some more patience for end-users.

We're getting Alpha2 within, i'd say, 3-9 months, and A2 is supposed to be a persistent test, so will probably contain majority of the content, just not polished yet or without spoiler questlines. Just play other games or go outside in the meantime, lol. Or jump the ship if you only expected "a game" 3 years ago and are still butthurt they didn't deliver it back then.

It's pretty normal for such projects to miss the estimated date. And as long as the game looks modern enough for current year (which this particular game does, especially after switching to UE5) and developer has enough money to continue active development (and I don't see Steven struggling in this regard) - I don't think most people would be bothered by the delayed release date.

Well for the first time in all of their Dev updates I feel a resemblance of Hype, combat has some potential. I will be paying more attention to future updates to see what all this comes into.

Umm.. those expectations were set by Stephen.. when he took our money.
Sure things change. But "Teasing Alpha Desert Biome" when the game is 3+ years behind schedule is not exactly exciting news.

heck... this whole game has been a tease.

This game looks good. Unfortunately, I think the release either will not happen, or will be 4-5 years out.

Also, I am uncertain of the forced PVP model. Other games have pvp and non pvp servers. This alienates, by my estimate, nearly half the players, which doesn't make good business sense. This is probably the only reason I personally did not get an alpha pack. Who knows, maybe an engaged singular subscription base will turn out better than some of the theme parks.

Good luck on the development. I still think the videos and assets are nice and may look at this game at launch if it hasn't been overshadowed by then.

As I said to folks in 2018/2019, anyone who thought this was coming out in 2019 was a fool. It's obvious you haven't followed the development at all. Sounds like you're another rando who watches too many video game critic Youtube channels and think crapping on anything and everything makes you look "wise" and "discriminating."

I would say probably "inept" in the way that he miscalculated how long it takes to make a game.

Sadly this is one game that at least seems to put in the effort and the effort pays off. They are way off the timeline, we can see that. At least what they show from the game is pretty good. I don't know if they will deliver everything they set out to, but compared to other indie games, and even triple a games like new world.... I think they have a good shot of making a good game.

    I'd try it at least.

Not vapourware, but until we actually have a released game anything in development might as well be, you can see development is going but at this rate 2025 is looking optimistic for launch.

There are 1000 games to pattern after your not inventing anything your copying a formula...

So much anger in this one! :) atleast the game is starting to look really interesting ( to me) the pace at which we see or get new info, is very very slowly increasing, now dont shoot em for saying that, but the last few things they have showed off have been really interesting to me, but i also love pvp and pve both, so its my blizz!
im just trying to say dont be so negative, yet.

i understand that you got hurt sometimes, so do i, ive been in an on/off hype mode, since i played swg and fell in love with mmos:=)

i was super hyped for warhammer, exrtremely hyped for Age of Conan, in hindsight i preolly spent the last 22 years beeing hyped and dissapointed in this genre, i mean, i was blown away by star citizen, 11 years ago, that stil havent even launched...

im just trying to say, out of all these mmos, Ashes seems the one closest to being able to realise it potential.

i just want a great open world Mmo, wiht great immersion and world building and pve/pvp, do not shoot this last hope down ;) what games are on the horizon after this i can drink copium from? ;):)

You miss the point.  My objection in the quote is to the person I in turn quoted.  That person called people who believed the 2019 release date "fools".  So my question stands:  If those people that believed Stephen's claims of a 2019 date are fools, then what does that make Stephen?  I just find it utterly silly that people blame customers for believing what a company says... and give the company a free pass.  That's... shall I say...  foolish.

Looking good, ofc the jaded old farts still need to throw shade at everything because they still have trouble accepting that the only constant of game development is change and they're unable to adjust their expectations based on knowledge so they hold on to "promises" as gospel to cry "but he said" over and over.  :D

They love eating cake they can't stand waiting for it to bake or learn and apreciate anything about how it's made.

"How long till we get there?" I asked from the back seat.

"Oh, only 10 minutes or so." says the driver.

"Hmm" I think to myself, its still over 300 miles away. 10 minutes is ridiculous.

"Oh, Okaaaay then. Can I get out now?" I ask.

It's an old trick. Claim you are going to release something in x years, and start gathering money. Of course, it takes 10x years to actually do the project, if they ever even finish it.

And if you point out the obvious disconnect, you are called a hater who knows nothing.

Pretty much...You'd think they'd be used to it by now and would have a more thorough understanding of how game development actually works at this point. Sure, Steven made a bad estimation, but seriously believing a game that existed in nothing other than a 1 zone prototype with a 5-man team (at the time) would be completed in under 1 year is foolish. Unless this was the first time someones followed the development of a video game, I don't see how they saw "Oh, 2019, seems perfectly reasonable to me!"

Also, calling someone an inept/incompetent person because they make a mistake here or there is extreme since that's generally used for people who show an absurd/far beyond normal degree of inability. Sure, be annoyed at him for making that estimation but also if you didn't request a refund, get over it, and if you did then why are you still mad?
