Larian is really dragging this one out. They flat out exploited the trust they earned from the Divinity series. It's the $60 early release price tag that really sours it.

Not sure what you're complaining about.

Baldurs Gate 1+2 have been developed under the motto "its done when its done".

Would be really sad to see if BG3 was not developed under the same motivation.

And you had free closed alpha/beta testing back then, they weren't charging you $60 to test their game.

Perhaps you don't understand the lack of motivation these companies have to finish a game when they are already selling $60 copies of it in early access?

You do realise you are not allowed to criticize Larian on these forums? :)

They have a great track record, but EA on principle is a bad business practise. so does not matter what studio is doing it.

There is a reason the idea for EA came to be; the intent is to gather a lot of data from a lot of players to fine tune the game during development for a superior experience at release. Recording statistics on what players do in their playthroughs to search for flaws and difficulty spikes, getting bug reports that might go unnoticed before release, and getting feedback on how certain game mechanics should be; these are all steps that should be taken in any credible EA and each one mentioned Larian is taking.

I won't deny most EA titles are cash-grab garbage created by unrecognizable indie devs, but when an already successful game developer comes out with an EA single player title and diligently provides regular updates for years... maybe they are genuinely trying to give you a good game.
What you're describing has been known as "beta" for decades and only recently has it become known as "early access" and sold to anyone instead of being done as invitations to free testing to those who would additionally provide valuable feedback instead of just being a warm body whose actions are measured with metrics.

If anything you would be more forgiving of starving artist "unrecognizable indie dev" doing it out of financial need than a studio with two very successful and profitable recent games under their belt,

This game is one of few EAs I've been proud to back and be apart of, it isn't some kickstarter take-the-money-and-run BS. This is one of the best if not the best D&D experiences you can get right now and probably for a long time coming. The game has been in development for like 3 years, and is slated for release in 2023. Larian is doing this legendary title a great justice; from Borislav Slavov's composing, incredible and unique communication with the fanbase, to regular large patches every 3 months or so. Nobody at Larian is sitting on their ass, and they have the work to show for it. Don't you think if they wanted to simply milk the $60 EA money we'd have far less updates and patch notes to look at?
Oct 2020 BG3 is far far different and way less polished than July 2022 BG3.

Perhaps you don't understand if you took off those doodoo-colored lenses you might see something you actually like.

    Definitively interesting. And looks promising.

Anyway, nowadays I trust no dev. I will probably buy after reviews on the full product.

As far as i know, they did not develop BG 1 or 2, unless i am remembering wrongly, they made some questionable modifications to those games once they acquired them :|
