Last month's anticipated expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic was received with less than favorable fanfare. Legacy of the Sith was released with issues that plagued the experience, but one that rose above the rest was the new Combat Styles. Scott takes a look at the feature in his latest.

Well as life stands right now I don't see myself using this feature.

The only class I've played that I didn't like the stock combat style was Imp Agent Operative as to me having a secret agent / spy lugging around a rifle never made any sense. For the sniper sure, but I'd have to say pistols would have been a better choice for the operative, but as I've already done the Imp Agent storyline I'm never doing it again so this just came too late for that.

Of the 3 I haven't done; Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior and Jedi Counselor; I've tried Knight & Warrior and just couldn't get into the stories so a combat style change won't do a thing for me there. I do plan on trying the Counselor storyline but whether it's with the stock style or the Sorc style I couldn't say.

It's nice the option is there as options are always good.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

    More options the better.

So far it's been an alright update. It feels like the ground work of perhaps something a bit newish but then it's like.. NGE mode at the same time? But also a reverse CU from SWG then turned NGE then ad hocced a bunch of stuff.

Still with that cluster of a engine (Go hero engine!) i'm surprised the servers don't catch on actual fire with more than 8 people in a instance.

feels like its been years since the style thing got announced, i thought it would be great if they added new styles and sold them. id totally like some fan service stuff, or new styles of saber fighting

The combat styles for tech users make perfect sense. The force users are kind of dumb because of the light and dark side stuff. But in the trailers have you noticed the force users can use any abilities they want. The force users do anything they want but you as a paying player can't.

All I know is that from what I was told, they so-called "streamlined" classes even more- that is to say, worsened and dumbed them down. Took away a lot of abilities.
Yeah, no thank you. I don't want a nearly-empty hotbar while being forced to choose between one or the other on abilities that, before this update, I already got both natively.

Canceled my sub for the first time ever. I was an original preorder and have been subbed since. This "expansion", and I use that term loosely, is an abortion. The story content is the shortest of any expansion in the history of the game and frankly even free content patches in WOW or other MMO contain tons more than this did. They pruned even more abilities from classes neutering many of them as far as versatility and dumbing down the game even more than it already was. They completely changed the way gear was earned. Now you MUST raid to get any worthwhile or best gear upgrades. You used to be able to earn them over time doing dungeons or crafting as well. Now no crafting of mods for slots is available. Also you can't run your favorite flashpoints (dungeons) for gear you have to run rotating ones to get maximum rewards. Also if you spent money on Cartel Shop cosmetics...you can't use your weapons. Why? because you can't use the transmog/costume designer for weapons since they haven't got slots currently for weapons. This means you spent tons of money on cosmetic weapons with mod slots, only to find you can't use them and have to use whatever garbage artwork on their dropped green weapons. Nothing like turning off people who spend the most money making what they spent it on useless. Next we have the horrendous UI update that made it look like some rank amateur attempt at a UI and frankly gave a lot of people headaches just looking at. Not a joke a lot of people on official forums were complaining about eye strain and headaches and had to stop playing the game after short play time period. We haven't even gotten into all the bugs, many game breaking, that this update launched with. Mind you this expansion was pushed back 3 months the night before it was supposed to launch to polish it more. This expansion introduced more bugs to live than have existed ever since launch. Thank god I have both Lost Ark and Elden Ring to play. They have washed the SWTOR 7.0 bad taste out of my mouth. And EA/Bioware are currently hemorrhaging long time customers like me who would have never otherwise canceled.

Well I'd say you were told wrong.

I didn't lose anything on either my Bounty Hunter or Commando and the only one I've heard of being removed was over on the steam forums and he said he'd lost his AOE attack on his ? - One of the force users (it was a light saber throw).

Now it does look like the BH ability Hunters Boon was modified.  Before I it was on a timer and I had to activate it when the timer ran out and now it's just always ON, so all they pulled was the need to push the button.

the 15 slot thing isn't true per say, if you roll similar classes, like a guardian sent, both can play with the same gear obviously ones single saber vs dual, however the games gearing process is a fail, capping at green 320's with the grind of aquatic resource matrix's to aquire green 322's is exhausting, and the stats don't make sense anymore, what happened to 110 accuracy? what happened to crit or alacrity , the stats and the gearing are horrible. the only thing i can say stayed relatively close were the tacticals, somewhat!

Easily one of the worst (if not the worst) updates in the entire game's history full of everything that literally no one wanted or asked for.

Another paid review writen by a person who dosen't play the game. As it stands 7.0 content was 1 hour worth of story new overview nobody wanted and an overpirced mount . They dare to call this an expansion ?>

This is "expansion" is best represented by the Dr. Evil finger quote meme with the word EXPANSION.

You're forgiven. I've played this game since beta! The length of the story or the depth of the expansion was never the topic of THIS article! And yes I know how long the story is said to be, but because of the Malgus FP bug I've not been able to finish. I'm not going to write about something I've not completely done myself. What I've discussed here is the start of a larger "direction" which was the intent of this article and how role-players can embrace it!
