To be perfectly honest I did the afk fishing once in BDO and never did it again. I did everything including riding my wagons to sell everywhere by hand. I know how stupid of me I guess. I really enjoyed myself riding to far off lands and getting ambushed and all that. I may have played it wrong but damn it I enjoyed msyelf.
I play the same way , really enjoy the journey and take my time , you never know what adventure may cross your path , or just to look at all the creativity .. for ex..

In 16 years of playing LOTRO I Never use a mount while soloing .. I walk everywhere  , such a great world to explore and enjoy the creative scenery , same with ESO ..

Exploring is so wonderful. You come across small details that some artist has put in that you can savour and treasure as something you discovered because you took the time to look around.

There is no "playing it wrong" or stupid if you enjoyed it. :)

I was referring to the majority of players that would set these up and go completely AFK, letting their PC run overnight and 24/7. Two problems:

    1) It is a waste of electricity and could be done offline with the same player experience, since the player is afk anyway. "Online afk" players like you could still stay online.

    2) Setting afk up needs to be the last thing you do before going afk and locks your toon. EVE's afk approach is more decoupled from active play and more flexible.
I am easily entertained I find many games quite fun and while people gnash their teeth and call it boring I find it fun and engaging. I always like exploring you see so it is something I enjoy sitting and playing for. More importantly I read everything and love quests. I'm willing to overlook a lot in an MMORPG if the story and lore are good. However I have to my chagrin found that what I find good like the volume of lore in Everquest 2, tedious and badly done to another person.

Sometimes it is not always good to judge everything so harshly, you sabotage your enjoyment by having a very bad view in general which you infect in every game and hence can never appreciate some of the good things. It pays to be a little naive in the fun department and less cynical in one's view.
You are missing my point,  this has nothing to do with "boring".

I am also sabotaging nothing, just different tastes. There's games out there catering to my taste and requirements so it's fine.

The issues I am highlighting (especially the first one, keeping the pc constantly powered on for afk farming) are solvable in my opinion for both kinds of audiences and there are examples of live games for that, which is why I wanted to give the different perspective.

Edit: removed the harsh tone from my post, there was no need, I probably misread your intention. :)
I mistakenly quoted you. It was meant to be an observation about some of the attitudes I have encountered. Had nothing to do with the AFK thing which is super silly in my opinion for anyone to do and an absolute waste of electricity. With the war going on now we in Italy are worried about our power needs.

I did afk fishing, but the wagons and all the other economic stuff I did myself. That said I did not exactly go in to it deeply, I never do pay that much attention to the the economic activates apart from resource gathering for guilds.

MIR4, I can give some insights, I've some friends playing it religiously for about 5 months and still doing so, they started cause the NFT fever, but stayed for the social part of the game, specifically Guilds. Since there is real money on the table Guilds take stuff seriously to a point that makes it look like RPing; wars, betrayals, spies even invasions were weaker guilds or proxys of stronger guilds move to less populated/newer servers to conquer the money printing machines, social dramas are the soul of the game.

The game is obviously not for everyone.

    - its an auto game you'll be playing around 20-30% of the time the other 80% you will be "mining" aka leaving the game in auto killing mobs getting exp, resources, etc
    - the game has low English representation
    - obviously P2W plus RNG (lootboxes)
    - no character depth
    - low optimization
    - Bots, hackers and Bots with hacks
    - chat can get really toxic pretty fast

I'm prolly missing a couple but yeah, if you don't like social games and stuff stay away.

It's a social game but you are AFK/autoing 80% of the time? Seems like a contradiction
Not necessarily. This sounds like BDO's afk mechanisms, where you set up your game for passive/afk gameplay after you are done with active playing, and the passive gameplay loop locks your toon down for it. Optimizing afk real time as a resource. Or you socialize in game while your toon does its thing.

Still silly, obnoxious and a waste of energy if you ask me. I like EVE PI, skilling and industry, where you set the passive mechanisms up (again optimizing real time as a resource) and can switch off your PC or keep actively playing, way more.
Pretty much this, you'll mostly farm stuff til you have to do guild activities, upgrade your character or you just get targeted by someone who probably wants your spot, its from an enemy guild/alliance or just wanted to kill for the fun of it.

The fact that you have to leave the game running even 24/7 to see progression is why I called it "mining", and its obnoxious.
