I kind of wish you would. I'd love to see all the constructive criticism being ignored. I remember a lot of petty whining about the character creator not having enough options, asset reuse (like we see in every MMO) and, of course, mobs. Even then, none of it was outright ignored. Many of us made counterpoints and discussions were had. I guess if you fail to change someone's mind it's because they just ignored you?
Not saying there wasn't any legitimate criticism. I can remember one post about the game becoming very top heavy and it being difficult to find people at lower levels, and I completely agreed. Before all the bugs and the issues with the economy longevity was my biggest concern, and there were a lot of people around here that felt the same.
The only person around here who was unwilling to listen to any criticism was Jean, and no one has to worry about him anymore.
I don't know why you've climbed up on such a high horse lately. The only actual criticism I've seen from you was about the combat, beyond that you liked it enough early on to give away several copies.

Somehow every thread on any game lately on this site turns into talking about other posters and their behaviors instead of the game itself. Weird behavior. Yet I guess that shows more about those doing the posting than it does about the state of the game or gaming. Even if games turn over the same problems as one another year after year it seems lost on those talking about them as they cant see or remember those same failings even in games they themselves 'claim' to love. New World seems to be the ex that spurned many this site's gaming cycle for sure. Next cycle it will be on to another game that is amazing or terrible and the 'told you so's' and the 'hallelujas' will return again. At least the behaviors of those involved are more predictable and simple than the games they talk about and we know who the derailers will be and are. I am less and less interested in the forums as of late. My discords I am on are interesting and for the most part the chat in games with those I chose to surround myself with and dev streams from friends and coworkers are more in line with the type of communities we used to see on sites days gone by.

Well i dont think fishing in mmo's would ever be able to compete with a standalone game but you either like things or you dont.
for me AGS has pretty much unlimited funding and new world was the best they could come up with.
as i've said before this should of been a showcase of what's possible. Instead we got yet another formulaic EQ clone cash grab with action combat and many many many poorly thought out and poorly implemented design aspects.
All things considered I stand by my 3 rating for the game. It works and it looks pretty. Zero of that three goes to the design team.

How’s the dragon slaying in those games? I like fishing too, I’ve got a million places to fish around here. One thing I’ve found with fishing games is that some can be quite fun but when it comes to representing the real thing, we’ll I’ve go a golf game you can try.
well losing ~75% of your players within one month of launch of a mmo (that actually works!) is extreme.
I asked in another thread if this is a usual player loss in MMORPGs... because I've read a few times now that such a drop is common in MMORPGs.
Such a drop is not common it is a big fall off. But revenue model plays a part in this, B2P is the most likely model to see a drop of. With F2P players come and go at the drop of a hat, subscription tends to put of people joining but aids retention (less so in the medium to long term), with B2P players like to feel they have 'got their monies worth' and then go if still not happy.
while all games, mmo or not, suffer initial playerbase decline this isnt normal for a mmo IMO and it isnt finished yet either as its still declining. Seems to me it was bought because it was Amazon and no other reason and then quickly shelved by most like it was a single player game.
usually its a 3 month test, not one month. I would wager the NW population will level off soon around the ~150k concurrent mark which is better than any mmo currently offered by steam such as Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls though those games are offered multiplatform so its not a fair/direct comparison as the steam numbers only represent about 1/3 of total players for those other games.
so retention in NW is very bad based on total sales, but "ok" based against other older mmo's on the market.
I feel people should own their likes while being aware of their likes faults. If you like a game, own it. Warts and all it is still ok to like a game that has issues. I see dupes and payment issues and technical issues to this day with 20 year old games. It never really ends. Just be honest about the game without over doing it from either side. I have liked NW since (before) launch and still do. Yes it has issues but I dont care. I like it. The sky is not falling in my world but it is not the second coming of the genre. I am ok with that. On the other side, if you do not like the game or the issues outweigh your like, own that too. Yet dont beat it into the ground and beat your chest like you are a gaming prophet You just come across weak minded and ego fragile. Say your peace and walk off.
White knights and trolls are the same type people with different optics. They are the chicken littles and fervant evangelics of the gaming world. Neither will admit they 'over do' anything. They are both zeolots and that is harmful for the genre on both ends. Which in reality comes across as comical to anyone with a rational mind that removes emotion and ego from the topic. These are just games for the vast majority of people in the world, nothing more. Why reveal an ugly side of your character in regards to them? Game on friends.
Sounds alot like our politics today....Extremists on both sides ruin everything.

I think the New World release brings to the fore some of the additional problems with releasing a PvP-centric game. In just kicking this around I've come up with a few bullet points that seem important.
Balance is key in PvP unlike it is in PvE. You may have the meta in a PvE game but you're not stomping on other players. You really have to nail balance in a PvP game - which isn't so bad if it is something like Unreal Tournament or Battlefield - but in an MMORPG it has to be balanced across PvE as well, and that is tough.
I know some truly great PvP players, but on the whole, the community attracts the worst of the worst. So right out of the gate you're dealing with a community that has some of the most destructive members imaginable.
In a highly competitive environment things like gold duplication bugs and weapon exploits, although bad in PvE game, are so much worse in a PvP title.
It totally makes sense that a PvP customer is going to want to get to PvP content as quickly as possible. This is almost exactly the opposite mindset of the PvE players who've a tendency (in my experience) to spend more time stopping and smelling the roses. How do you develop for both types of players in the same game? I don't think you do.
Amazon probably should have gained some institutional knowledge by devloping a successful PvE title first.
I think you are on to something.. that PvP MMO's, do not attract actual PvP players, people looking for a PvP game, where skill of the player shines on the battlefield, hence it being Player vs Player, as opposed to Toon vs Toon, which brings us PvP in MMO's where the combat is mainly Toon vs Toon, and this seems to attract the worst kinds of people.
But, even with that aside, the whole studio was a train wreck that seemed hell bent to not learn anything from what anyone and everyone else already had to deal with, for better or worse, they seemed determined to make all their own mistakes on this, and, bless them, that held true up to launch and now into the live game.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.

I agree with some of that (although I believe there are plenty of "competitive" PvE players that push through content as fast as they can for bragging rights).
This wasn't just a PvP game. It's about territory control and when people put their blood, sweat and tears into their territory... many will quit when they lose it. That's just human nature. What made this so much worse though was that many territories were lost due to massive exploits.
The WARS are also far too frequent (as are invasions) and they just lose their appeal after a while. At the start folks were screaming to be selected for a WAR. Now it's a chore.
I still like the game and setting overall, but it needed far longer in incubation. My friends have already started to peel off. I mean, one is a furniture maker and he hasn't been able to really play at all for over a week since they STILL have furniture transfer turned off. His bank is full and so is he...

I watched that video and it boggles my mind that considering the combined experience of the developers that they have made these mistakes. Some of them are so rookie it is laughable.
I am not interested in this game and I didn't follow the development but this video was very well done and you can see that this guy really played the game as he is able to point out the problems with great detail.
I feel that the developers tried some systems without actually considering the impact but with the wealth of experience behind them from other games they were involved in before coming to Amazon Game Studios they should have been able to realise the pitfalls immediately. How could this have gone into the game in the form they took. It is obvious these were very poorly designed systems.

I supposed tried and true has its value .
I don't know about anyone else, but the number of mistakes, guffaws, and outright errors that the community is reporting about this particular game makes me question the veracity of the claims of 'experience of the developers'.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Here's to you and here's to me, good friends we'll always be. If not..... well fuck you and heres to me
I'm here for a good time not a long time.
That just means that I've seen too many of my friends already leave us before their time. Don't take the people or animals you care about for granted.

The rest of the list we could discuss if ya want , I stand by each of those points .
for me AGS has pretty much unlimited funding and new world was the best they could come up with.
as i've said before this should of been a showcase of what's possible. Instead we got yet another formulaic EQ clone cash grab with action combat and many many many poorly thought out and poorly implemented design aspects.
All things considered I stand by my 3 rating for the game. It works and it looks pretty. Zero of that three goes to the design team.

usually its a 3 month test, not one month.

LOL.
But.. since I never played the game, I'll still extend my hand in congrats for being right.
But, even with that aside, the whole studio was a train wreck that seemed hell bent to not learn anything from what anyone and everyone else already had to deal with, for better or worse, they seemed determined to make all their own mistakes on this, and, bless them, that held true up to launch and now into the live game.
