..... and the lines out the door to jump into Blockchain games and give Epic their money.... are still nowhere to be seen.

Epic's already demonstrated they don't understand the concequences of their actions, wait until the AML regulators get ahold of them, fun times ahead.

On the plus side I might be able to get a job there now, they'll need my very particular set of skills.

From the tweet “… provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group…”

I forgot you discuss weird. Like you have a point to make about something that might or might not be on topic, but can't let anyone else know what it is.

In the very least it's a neutral thing. It doesn't hurt those that don't want to play them, and it helps those that want to play blockcgain games by putting them on a popular platform.

Nahh.. I don't really know much about New World, but I was under the idea that it was a typical traditional MMO, not some Blockchain MMO.

So.. if it's not one of the new age blockchain MMO's out there, why are you citing their numbers.

If they are a Blockchain MMO.. well they are still for sale on Steam.

Anything (or anyone) which assists in the success of block chain (aka Crypto) gaming or NFT trading is along the lines of aiding and abetting in a criminal situation, at least in my view.

I don't want to see this invade gaming as I feel it will disrupt the industry in ways I don't care for much like the FTP / Cash shop model has.

One thing I'm sure of is all newer forms of monetization have resulted in me either paying more or receiving less from games than the P2P model used to.

Some gamers really have spent what I consider to be unreasonably large sums which I feel has also been a detriment to my gaming experience overall, regardless whether they thought it was a good value.

I love the way they talk about "age rated by an appropriate group", as if in this day and age kids are not finding ways to play any game they please and that's on Epic, Steam, wherever.

Hustler used to say age restricted as well.. like kids didn't get their hands on nudie mags.

Sure, but I would suggest it is easier to get games which are rated at a higher age group today than it was getting the top shelf mags back in the day.

Epic is just saying that using blockchain wouldn't automatically disqualify a game from being listed.  They can still find other reasons to decline to list any particular blockchain game that reeks of a scam.

Why? Did you think it went any different then getting your parents to buy it for you.. knowing or unknowingly?

Err, I can't see anyone's parents getting them Hustler, I am sure that's not what you are saying. Do you mean parents paying for a magazine subscription, well that's going to arrive on the door mat and parents can be nosey, so I am a bit puzzled.

A lot of games aren't "age-rated by an appropriate group".  Big-budget games generally are, but once you get into low-budget indie games, a lot of times, they aren't.  Some games are rated by ESRB or PEGI or CERO or GRAC, but not by all of them.  One game I've played had the PS4 and Switch versions rated by the ESRB, but not the PC version.

Of course, Steam has proven to be very willing to host no-budget indie games that may or may not be complete garbage, only removing the game if there's something clearly amiss.  Epic hasn't been willing to host random shovelware like that.

I knew Tim was gonna make this play. Blockchain games on their own are not fun and fairly weak on their own as games.

This is a hard one for me.

Blockchain games, from my limited and recent knowledge, come in a limited variety of shapes and sizes. Personally, I pigeonhole them alongside gambling software etc. Core concept: Spend money to make money, playing games, right?

Epic Games Launcher MAY very well be the gaming platform, on PC, with the largest child audience (I have neither the numbers for this or the evidence. Purely using the, admittedly flawed, logic that Fortnite uses the platform). So let's pretend for just a moment I'm not making wild assumptions.

How would this affect those children using the platform, giving them possible access to blockchain games? Okay, parental guidance and restrictions will play a part, but we all know that doesn't stop it entirely.

Is it the right move, considering the nature of these blockchain games, to be included on this platform?

    I really don't think so.
