At the rate things are going.. I am half expecting this to happen.

Many of us here remember the days before Esports, Streamers,  Influencers and all the other people getting paid for gaming today....IT was nice before everything was big business.
I rember too bud. black jack on casset tapes then 600 bps modems. I also only have memories of those games.

Man it would have been nice to have something I could look at and take me back. You know, a part of those games.
Hypothesis: Some years earlier you wanted to get rid of it and threw it into trash?
My mom did Im sure, or my dad. I miss my Zork and Beyond Zork boxes, and my Knight of Valor team, all that cool armor and those cool weapons. Cyrics blade from forgotten relms... just memories. Would be nice to have something to show.

I'm sure you're starting to see the difference right now, huh?
The big difference is people who bought in because they want a game vs the NFT craze that's nothing but a gamble for the prospect of making money out of it, that's why they can fund dozens of millions without a single footage of the game or even clarity on what the game even is.

That's not going to be about a game, that's never going to be a good future for gaming. It'll be as much about a game like Entropia Universe was/is, as it did this long before crypto shenanigans came around.

Well I think you and Kyleran were onto something earlier...No one wants to work a real job anymore....They are looking for other (quick) ways to make money without really having to work.....THey see crypto, NFTs and all these other new trends as ways to make the fast buck without having to leave the house.

That's something that gets very niche, it is always a casino nature, someone loss for your gain, as far NFTs is just like Entropia has been for long.

Not sure if you meant gamblers or gamers there.

If you shill this crypto crap and your first thought is about the money and not the game play you are more gambler than gamer.

It's ok though this blockchain garbage just got pimp slapped by the biggest video game platform that was notorious for bad curation and asset flips.

If this doesn't wake you up to how bad blockchain crypto gambling games are you are probably too far gone and can not comprehend why Steam would do this and care more about the money than the actual video game.

That's what this blockchain crypto movement is anyway. A bunch of people who care more about money than the actual video games.

A part of the games?  Who says you can't still have the games themselves?  I still have an NES and a bunch of cartridges for it.

Of course you can. I was 11 or 12 when I got my NES. I'm sure it got pitched when it stopped working. I'd like to have items like that whistle from zelda. Just wasn't possible back then. It is now. I can't see how that would be a problem for anyone.

Have you tried a google image search? After that, right click -> save image. Problem solved! Some problems already have solutions. Especially, using the example of an item from NES Zelda; There is no item uniqueness from one player's game to the next, and no practical reason for there to be, so a picture of the item is as good as any other representation.

But maybe the real treasure is the friends you made along the way.. ;)

That is sad to hear. I guess it is just a small part of a very big business. At least I can play CSGO via steam, and that is the only thing that bothers me. This game is important for me not only because it is entertaining but also because I make money from it. I sell and trade skins https://skinsmonkey.com/ which make me a lot of money. I discovered that website not too long ago, and it really has changed my life. I dropped out of college and concentrated on CSGO, which only has benefited me, and now I’m being able to pay for anything I want. If anyone is looking for a website where you would be able to buy, sell or trade skins, then you should definitely check it out.

For me, it's like loot boxes.  I don't care if they are there or not.  If you want to buy loot boxes or play NFT games, play them.  I grow weary of everyone decided what others can't play or should play.  Let me decide what I want to play, eat, (who or what) I want to sleep with.  Unless it's a minor or there is some other reason certain groups need to be restricted, game on.

I like Steam's move.  You think I want my young kids in my family screwing around with crypto.

Crypto ponzie "investing" is so bad right now, i was recently in a bar where a 22 year old kept trying to convince a single mom without even 1 months emergency cash... to get a loan and buy crypto.

I kindly told him to f$ck off. o:)

When business and morality combine it's a happy coincidence, but not something one should expect. The same is true for humanity and morality. It's not as though either association is present to the degree that it could be considered the default.

Except now credit and debit cards are commonplace.  I'm a ...sheltered person, but half the people I know are bitcoin or the like.  It's becoming a mainstay, like it or not.  I would but I neither trust my internet connection or my power supply to my home.  My main issue with the like is how invisible it is.  It's not.. paper money, its electricity.  And thinking something that can't actually be seen by my eyeball but is worth something regardless of my perception is worthless is foolhardy, especially when the rest of the world is embracing it.  These ...electrical bits are here to stay.  Even if their monetary value wanes, currently, they are here, and most likely aint going anywhere soon.

Yeah, my 33 yr old daughter told me she "invested" $50 in crypto currency and it had already doubled in value, so she was asking if should do more.

I asked if she had secured her wallet and seed passwords and she said, "What wallet, didn't know I had one."

I asked her not to put any more money in until we had a chance to review what exactly she was involved with.

Is it because there is a potential liability.
And then there was one person I have found that gets the reasoning behind it, steam does not want to be liable for mistakes or sued for something that goes wrong on something new, I can't blame them I wouldn't want to lose the money I need for fueling my private yacht

All jokes aside glad im seeing someone with a brain that gets it
Not really.  There isn't much liability.  Take Googles play store,  what is there liability to host the hundreds of play to earn games on there?

Apple allows crypto apps that comply with their In app purchases requirement that forces purchases to be subject to a 30% fee. Same thing they are in court for with epic.

No doubt steam is doing something similar.  The actually liability is zero because all in game purchases are outside steams store.  They can't monetize it.
