Don’t post very often, but I am on this site every day.

I beat Morrowind in 2002, Oblivion in 2006, and after ten years of procrastination I finally beat Skyrim.

Not a huge accomplishment or anything, but figured it was worth sharing.

    First off congrats!

I'm still making my way through Daggerfall so I get it. I hope you enjoyed it.

Secondly, while I was supposed to release my Skyrim mod a bit ago, I found two game breaking issues (now fixed) so just going through it with a fine tooth comb just in case there are more "game breaking issues."

I feel the pain of real developers: "but it worked I don't understand why it's not working now!"

I'll let you know when I release it (now aiming for Tuesday latest)

Also, Perrin, do you have any thoughts about things you liked, disliked about Skyrim as compared to the other Elder Scrolls games you played? Things you would have liked to see or things that shouldn't have been changed.

Also things you believe were an improvement?

I've played and finished, often more than once, all of them since Arena. I've always liked their somewhat unconventional spin on basic Tolkien with a rich lore developed through decades and the ever present mystery about what happened to the dwarves or "Dwemer."

I have to admit though that I'm getting rather tired of playing in this one continent and was actually hoping that TES6 would take us West to the other one. Seems like it won't though. Who knows, maybe there are still dwarves there?

    Congrats!

I loved Morrowind and probably completed it around the same time as you. Oblivion wasn't as good but I played it a fair amount. Never completed it, I hated those Oblivion Gates! So repetitive and boring! But, I did once attempt to complete it, only to have an Oblivion Gate bug out as part of the main storyline. Best thing about Oblivion was the dark brotherhood questline, the stealth gameplay was such a vast improvement over Morrowind that I really loved it.

Skyrim....I think I completed the main storyline but honestly can't remember. It was so boring that I just tried to blast through it as quickly as possible so I could unlock some more shouts. I certainly did all the guilds as well as the faction war stuff. But, I disliked the world of skyrim, it was so bleak and low-fantasy that I just wasn't excited by the world. I could only ever manage about 30 hours of playing at a time before I put the game down for six months or so.

Good job, I'm still working on Skyrim, have played 100s of hours across all platforms but can never seem to beat it.

    I didn't realize there was a "West!"

I imagine your tired because of Elder Scrolls Online trying to utilize the entirety of the map. I wonder if the single player games will rekindle your interest as they seem to have more imagination.

I'm not enamored of how Elder Scrolls Online has treated the lore as the single player games have more "weird."

I think I'd be up for learning more about what happened to the Dwarves but never really knowing.

    Keep the mystery alive! B)

Nice work developing the mod Sovrath.

Your question is loaded. I really liked that Skyrim was easy to get into. If I had 15 minutes I felt I could do some stuff. The modding was great and VERY easy from a user end. The various quest lines were fun and there were many different locations to visit, especially with the DLCs. I enjoyed building a house too.

However, it was too streamlined. I am not against making things easier, but Morrowind just felt like a real world. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but things felt alive. I also felt I had a lot more options in Morrowind with weapons, spells, etc… It will always hold a special place in my heart.

I enjoyed Skyrim, but I loved Morrowind.

I reckon I should also (force myself to) finish Skyrim. Idk, I feel it is very meh and kinda, idk, awkward when compared to earlier TES games(not that kind of guy, but Skyrim feels oddly mainstream to me). It neither has the structure and fantasy of Morrowind nor the charm of Oblivion.

But, enough about me, what do YOU think / feel about Skyrim? And TES in general.

While Morrowind is my favorite (and my first so is that a "thing" amongst players? not sure) it hasn't aged very well. I played it for over two years and have gone back but this recent pass is a bit difficult.

Especially with the main story which does fall on "collect this thing and bring it back" etc.

The world feels more alive because exploring is better.

Skyrim has more fleshed out npc's and a better world. Some of the stories are great but the whole puzzle system is ridiculous.

I'm afraid I'm going to be helping a lot of people in my mod as they aren't going to get some of the puzzles.

Still, it's amazing to get lost in Skyrim and really just be out in the wilderness and see things and do things.

I try not to fast travel in Skyrim and that does help to make it immersive. However, I wish they would have spent more time on the quest book so you could truly use that to find places. Instead it was generic and it forced you to look at the MAP marker.

Skywind (if it ever comes out) could be great.

First off, what version of Daggerfall (vanilla, maybe Daggerfall Unity, a mixture of mods)?

Secondly, I like your quest idea for Skyrim. I'm not a player that usually "goes for" player created quest mods, but I look forward to your own work :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I'm like you, I rarely use the fast travel unless I feel there is a storied reason to do so. The only one that comes to mind is Oblivion when you come back from Mankar Cameron's place and need to head to the Imperial City. Somehow making the trek feels anticlimactic and doesn't keep the tension of what transpired and what one finds so I use fast travel then.

I agree, Skywind seems like it will be amazing!

I'm using Daggerfall Unity (which was easy to set up and is awesome) and just a few mods to make things look a bit prettier.

I'm using DREAM and Handpainted Models to make things look better, Enhanced Sky because I just couldn't stand the game sky anymore and Taverns Redone with the DREAM patch.

I also replaced the music because I really couldn't listen to the original synthesized "instruments" anymore.

Thanks for the mod comments. I actually like some player created mods but try to stay away from those that really change things too much.

My mod is more contained as at its heart it's a very large dungeon crawler. It does introduce a set of characters but the premise is that he and his folowers (dead and alive) were buried and memory of them was wiped away. (like the video says!)

So hopefully that won't wreck anyone's lore immersion too much.
