With World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic fast approaching, some of the features (and their costs) are being made known to players to continue their journey into Outland. During the initial announcement on Thursday, Blizzard also detailed the cost for some of its convenience services, including a $35 fee to clone your character across both Classic and TBCC servers.

The excitement of playing WoW was the fact that those of us that got into it were riding on the hype from the RTS. When the original WoW released, it was buggy, terrible mess that was awesome to play. As the patches came out and the hype for the next expansion came out, everyone was super pumped for it due to the fact that it was picking up where the RTS left off. The fight between the Lich King and Iliidan was implied, but not explored. Did he survive the fight (He being Illidan)? What is going on beyond the Dark Portal? This all got explained with the NEW release of the expansion. Same with with Wraith of the Lich King. The new expansion expanded on the lore that we all knew from the previous mmo experience AND the RTS. What was the Lich King doing during all this time? Frostmourne was hungering, and Arthas had been fought back, but what was he plotting? I say all this to bring about my point. We are all looking at these expansions with rose colored glasses. There was a pre-patch, but the new races weren't part of it. With the classic release, there is. As far as the cloning aspect, what do you expect? Everything that I talked about in the first part of this is not a factor when it comes to the current business model of WoW. They know that it's either them or the private server aspect of WoW. Would you rather pay 25 bucks and play old content that is stable or move forward? I am not defending that business practice at all, but you all have to realize that they KNOW they are gonna have individuals that pay for it. Wanna make a difference? Don't pay for it. The ones that are grumping over people that will boost and pay, get over it. That is their current pay model, just look at the Shadowlands. Between the boosts and tokens, they are banking (literally) on people to pay for it. Hell, the lore in WoW has gone to shit since BoA (In my opinion. And my opinion is often crap).

But, to correct you on a couple of things:

    1) The boost cannot be used on Blood Elf or Draenei characters. Although, I agree that 2 weeks is too short for players just jumping in to level high enough to go through the Dark Portal on day 1. New players will have a greater incentive for buying the boost due to fear of missing out.

    2) The $70 deluxe edition does include the boost. It also includes 30 days game time, which means that if you were gonna play and get the boost anyway, you are paying an extra $15 for basically a unique mount, cosmetic foot print effect, and dark portal hearthstone. I am sure many will buy it. Not me though.

    I stand corrected

I wish MMORPG would do a story on the arena changes and how it impacts who participates and why, Blizzards reasons and the community counter-reasons.

This is way more important than paid boosts to 58 or same character server splits or whatever.
I think we'd first need a story to understand why anyone would be interested in playing WOW's arenas, I had forgotten all about them personally.
If you have the arena bug, you get it bad.  What game has a better arena than wow in BC and WotlK?

I'd like to hear your story on how or why you think the most fun thing WoW had to offer isn't fun though.
I'm more of an open world combat fan having cut my MMORPG teeth on Lineage 1/2, DAOC, Shadowbane and 10 years of EVE where PVP is more like open warfare with no quarter given and the words "fair fight" are seldom heard.

Battlegrounds and arena combat is nothing I ever enjoyed nor feel a need for them to be in MMORPGS which is one reason I didn't last long in WOW as it's "best" as you call it was not of any interest to me.

As for "arena" combat I can't say not really being my thing however I would thing games such as LOL, Overwatch or a host of others would offer a superior experience for those looking to fight in a "competitive" environment but maybe not,

Company deliberately creating problems then offering a fee to fix it.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

The finer point is that, this isn't a classic server anymore.

What is this $70 deluxe edition people are mentioning? TBC is free with WoW Classic is it not? I am failing to understand WHY the cloning fee is a problem.... what other game allows you to clone a character other than on test servers?

Does LOL or Overwatch have any pve content?  Or chardev?  Do I have to do different content to get some BiS item slots?

In WoW I can do a million things, in BC I have 61 talent points and can make pretty wild builds, in WotLK I have 71 talent points plus glyphs, etc.  Plus my own character I made.  I also have 2v2 and 3v3.

From what I understand (having never played either) in LOL and Overwatch are not rpgs, have no content besides arena, and you pick a premade character and have no chardev.

I think the arena is a blast as an activity to do in a mmorpg with a lot of other stuff to do and strong chardev and options.  Just as I think BGs are.  But I'd never play a game that was just BG after BG, or raid after raid, or dungeon after dungeon.
