CU successfully funded on Kickstarter on May 2nd, 2013.  Congratulations to CSE and Mark Jacobs on eight years of development without a release!  Here's to making it ten.

I hate getting old,i feel like i missed some years in there somewhere.I know i spent almost a year in/out of Hospital but it feels like i missed 2-3 years. These KSr games feel like they just begun 3-4 years ago...sigh.

2013 man that is a long time ago.I can't believe he faces the public with a straight face anymore,he must feel some shame in being so incompetent and just taking money from people to pay himself a nice salary.

It gets even worse when he tries to convince people he can now work on TWO games at once after spending 8 years and getting nowhere on ONE lmao.

Yeah, would seem Pantheon is getting up there in years as well, I think their goal was reached sometime back in 2014?

So far, they've made an engine that:

    • Rubber bands at 1 player (Verdant Forest)

    • Lags at 10 in "normal" gameplay situations. According to MJ, the engine was running the Ragnarok demo as well as they could expect even for launch, and players and NPCs were constantly warping around. MJ was rubber banding every 3-4 seconds. It looked like playing on a server with 500+ ms constantly.

    • Borders on unplayable when it gets to 300. Anybody telling you it is performant at 1,000+ is lying to you. The game is borderline unplayable at 300, and it is 100% unplayable at 600. There's a reason they stopped showing footage of the game at 300+ players, and it isn't because the performance was good. Well, their current excuse is they can't even get a full 20 people to log in on the weekends to test it even though it is a mandatory playtest for their company of 38 people.

    • Takes ~60ms to process input on a good day. It feels like you're playing through TeamViewer or another RDP software.

    • Has shader quality you'd expect from a game from 2007.

    • Has a render distance that looks like it was made for a mobile game.

    • Has LOD pop-in that would be offensive on a mobile game.

    • Has a lighting system that looks like it was made for EverQuest 2.

    • Has a lighting "fade" effect that MJ claimed (in December) was "incorrectly configured and would only take a few minutes to fix" that hasn't been fixed yet.

    • AI that get stuck constantly (and permanently) on terrain. It has been a problem for 6 months, and they've went through multiple "specialists" at this point. It's a bad sign when you're hiring "specialists" for pathfinding in the first place.

    • Extremely rudimentary AI (think solo dev on an indie project making a proof-of-concept to work on later tier) despite having multiple "specialists" working on different areas of AI development.

As for the game of Camelot Unchained itself:

    • Gameplay is where it was 3 years ago. It hasn't moved forward an inch. Mark Jacobs will sometimes come up with new """"innovative"""" systems to design so he can get Massively OP to talk to him again, but he'll refuse to field any question that is even remotely difficult to answer.

    • It is 3-4 years off still at best.

    That's about it.

What else has Mark Jacobs done in that time?

He's doxxed a backer and posted their dox to Reddit. He was banned from Reddit for a week for it.

He's spent literal days arguing in the comments of a recent article on Massively OP about how everything is moving faster than they could have possibly hoped, and people are being unrealistic expecting CU to be further along.

Also keep this in mind about City State Entertainment:

City State Entertainment was originally formed in 2009 to make mobile games. They blew threw a few hundred thousand trying to make a single mobile game, but CSE's cofounders of Mark Jacobs and Andrew Meggs weren't able to make a single mobile game in 3 years before they decided to make an MMO instead.

Mark is more interested in forming a cult of personality than he is in making a game or an engine.

This is probably the most accurate depiction of most of these projects and hell, I feel part of it as well. We exist in an age where a person can become more popular from their living room than someone who's working in an industry for decades. I think that can take the wind out of anyone's sails. Most of these people just want to be relevant again and would just become 'another member' if they went to work for a bigger group again.....but they forget that the bigger group was why they were popular in the first place.....they didn't get the notoriety and achievements by themselves. They had a team and corporate money propping them up. Unfortunately, the general masses look at "this person worked on this" or "this person has years of experience here" and their wallets open.

Got a temporary suspension on the CU subreddit for my post about the 8th anniversary, and replied to the mod about how they learned their approach at censorship and crushing dissent from CSE and MJ.  Here's the response I got from the mod, with a nice insult attached.  About as mature and impartial as I'd expect from them.

If you have any brain left, read the subreddit and see how much dissent is in the posts, yet they still remain.

Your thread got locked because you broke the rules. Simple as that. Like I said, try to be more subtle.

Dude, they have a point. Why would you try and show sheep the light as to how little progress they've made over the years along with them working on a side project to boot. They need those sheep to remain in the dark with their wallets open. You're so rude (all sarcasm of course).

Now that I think about it, all of these crowd-funded projects have been working on something on the side. Crowfall with their tacked on BR, Ashes had their BR which 'disappeared' after they said it was NEEDED, CoE trying to push out KoE so they can try avoid getting sued into the ground. Only one I can think of so far that hasn't is Pantheon, but who really knows how things are going with them.

This is a shame, ever since i signed up to the original Dark and Light MMorpg, i refuse to give any money to developers until open beta starts. And i really wanted this game to make it. My first MMorpg was DAoC. So i am really pulling for this game to make it.

I actually gave this KSer money but at this point it no longer matters really if it ever delivers, I just follow along to see how the story  eventually ends.

Some familiar faces here that used to constantly shit on Star Citizen development hurdles back in the day lol

Remember when I said those hurdles would affect any developer attempting to do a complex game from scratch through crowdfunding and open development and was laughed at?

    Yeah. B)

With that said, keep on backing, not with money but by supporting the dev's, they already have your money so trashing them just to release your frustration is unproductive.

Remember what made you interested enough to give money in advance to help make this game.

Take a look at the market, Is there an alternative to that game you backed?

If yes? Go enjoy it and forget this one (it will make the wait easier).

If no. You're in the same spot, waiting for a game like this, even if you hadn't backed or even knew the game existed. You would still be waiting for a game of this kind.

Being an angry gamer doesn't have to be a permanent state of mind. Adapt your expectations and remember the reason you like gaming so much :)

When will it release? When will all refunds be paid, how many remain to be paid, when will NDA be coming down, when will 24x7 test servers become available....shall I keep going?

I can do this all night.

Let's get one thing out of the way, just because you personally feel something is not a satisfactory answer does not mean it is not an answer.

    Q: When will it release?
    A: When it's done.

Q: When will all refunds be paid?
    A: When it's done.

Q: How many remain to be paid?
A: That is none of your business.

Q: When will NDA be coming down?
A: Sometime after the new RvR map is ready for testing.

Q: When will 24x7 test servers become available?
A: .Sometime after the new RvR map is ready for testing.

Perhaps because there's no actual game to play yet. Even the game's most arduent backers on Reddit admit with any luck there might be some actual game loops finished before years end, but still not there yet.
