Indeed this type of games gives them the medium to show that.

Do you need something for night,no of course not, well same goes for the day time, why would you need it?

Some people over think sometimes,it is easy to grasp the cycles after about 1-2 days of playing,no need for any sundial.

Personally i have no problem setting the TOD to 0.4 because the devs were too lazy in designing the AI,simplifying it to automated pathing. So nighttime should offer the cover of night, walls and underground should offer the perception of being hidden or again behind cover but they DON'T.So if the devs want to create cheat AI i will cheat their TOD.Design the game/Ai properly and i will play along.

Skip to around 11 minutes and you'll see how LAZY the AI is done,a simple automated pathing. This is why players find ways to cheat the systems because they are so poorly done.

When you want to dislike something, you always find a reason why I guess :)

Day and Night are important to track later in the game. When Blueturtle and I just fought Bonemass starting in the day was important to minimize the number and strength of the adds and wandering monster spawn. I specifically told them how handy it would be if we had a sundial. Instead we just wait until morning and tried to prepare the area a little bit.

One key aspect of a sandbox game is being able to solve problems and tackle challenges in different and creative ways.

If some guy wants to dig a deep hole, cover it with stone, and funnel skeletons and dwarves into a trap then let him. That is a lot of time and resources to spend for an effort that doesn't give a lot of return. The best thing out of that gimmick would be the resin.

Is he going to build one of those everywhere he wants to operate in the Forest? That will take time and a lot of resources without doing much to move him forward? He isn't going to do that in the Swamp, that's for sure. He could build a tree fort, but we found that doesn't really seem necessary and it wouldn't accomplish the same thing.

The one overriding factor in this game is how well prepared the character is before engaging anything. People who don't play the game see videos like that and think that is all they need to do to win, but those things don't move you forward in tackling new areas or content. This game is a Scouts dream.
