CSE streamed a bit of the new biome which constitutes a part of what will be the first island meant for the final game. The quality during of the stream doesn't do it justice, so if you're a backer, log in next weekend to check it out firsthand.
And yes, it's supposed to be very dark. Having spent a good deal of time playing in the area this past weekend, I can say that it's a very different experience requiring different strategies when working with your group in this setting compared to in open fields.
