Gamigo and ArcheAge want you to work for free

****/2020/10/11/trove-and-rift-celebrate-gamigos-20th-anniversary-archeage-seeks-community-ambassador-volunteers/#comments

"In other Gamigo MMO news unrelated to the celebration, ArcheAge is putting out the call for volunteer community ambassadors, touting the program as “a crucial first step in getting into the gaming industry and obtaining paid employment within the gaming industry in the future” and the opportunity for fans to help the game’s community. The task list effectively reads like an unpaid CM internship, with potential candidates responsible for moderation of Twitch and Discord, solving player disputes, and listening to player concerns."

Being an unpaid community moderator seems far better than paying to be an Alpha/Beta tester.  I doubt very seriously that either will lead to "obtaining paid employment within the gaming industry" on any kind of regular basis.

Seeing this makes me wonder if they got the idea from Infinite Crisis when Turbine did the EXACT same thing. Wasn't Celestraza CM for AA? cause she was CM for Infinite Crisis as well.

Turbine did it shortly before they shut down the game in an attempt to get unpaid workers to promote the game. What ended up happening though is that all the people with their new titles became tyrants with their special VIP privileges dividing the community even more. I can give specific examples of terrible behavior but don't really feel like going there.

Unpaid internships aren't anything new, so whatever.

They provide experience at least, and often glean the participants letters of recommendation and/or industry references.

Such can be invaluable when first starting out, whether the company itself is hiring or the person must look elsewhere.

    Pretty much a non-issue really.

Living in America is all about working for free for the man.

Someone (who got paid) used to pump my gas. Now I pump my gas (for free).

Someone (who got paid) used to bag my groceries. Now I bag my groceries (for free).

    And so on.

Do they have to stop working for free when their labor pots run out?
