I have been a member here for 15 years. The site has changed in that time in many ways.
Dividing activity into three categiries, we have mayhem (flaming and trolling), harmless chaos (e.g., pretty much everything Delete ever posted), and constructive conversation.
Mayhem is way down, which is good. Harmless chaos is down, and whether that is good or bad is debatable. Constructive conversation is up, and that is good. Overall I think the site has made some improvements.
I been away for a while. I keep hearing about this Delete poster. Whats some stuff they talked about and why they get banned?
He didn't get banned. He's just taking a self imposed break.
It's also amusing you don't know who he is when he routinely started about 10 threads a week either in the Pantheon forum or The Pub.
His ideas were often out there... as in way out there.
I've been reading your posts (and a few others) since my own self-imposed hiatus and skipping most of the cruft. I've visited once or twice a week using the incognito browser mode. It's always nice to read a well articulated and thoughtful post to an article. It's like mining for rare crafting materials.
Anway, Blueturtle mentioned your PM so I thought I'd log back in, say hi, and join the living and the undead. lol
Obviously you have time on your hands because you changed your avatar before posting...again.

Whats some things we can do to spice things up again here?
Not getting butt hurt and ban every one for saying something you dislike haha. Its hilarous when you guys get confused why people stop talking. I mean just look at the off topic thread by the owner, he raged in his own forum talking about how he's gonna ban any one who dares defy him.
Who wants to take the time to type besides me when they know if they say something wrong might get the. Banned.
Same concept as heroes of the storm. They literally banned 100s of thousands of people for writing words, it was so bad at one point if 4 people reported u at once it would instant auto ban you haha. Every one just left and now the ques are 15 mins long.
Banning people for typing on a site all about conversation and typing doesn't attract more people. The ban insanity of the internet has just gotten to the point most people would rather not waste time typing, to just have it censored or banned.
On the contrary not banning those who can't follow simple rules like - abstaining from personal attacks would make all quality posters leave and the forums would turn into a toxic vomit dump
There are plenty of forums like that already - so I say keep the banhammer as active as possible
If anything, they are way too tolerant towards posters who make it a sport to camp game specific forums just to bash those games. Those people turn those specific forums into a cesspool of vomit, as you say, when those forums should be about exchanging information about playing those games.
See what I mean ?
You still don't understand the difference between criticism and bashing
Even harsh criticism is fine as long as there is evidence to back it up.
Bashing is baseless senseless and with zero evidence.
I am glad that at least mmorpg admins understand the difference, you clearly still dont
Evidence to what, exactly? How does one "prove" they don't like some feature that others seem to like? Does that make them right? Or Wrong?
What happens in the game specific forums is just a bunch of bashing with butt-hurt people who watch a game go further and further away from what they want to play. It's one reason I stopped visiting those forums.
Criticism is never harsh, if put the right way: with tact. Underneath good criticism is a hope to improve, not to belittle. But "improve" is defined by each individual player.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
Well from someone who is a very casual poster over the years, this site changed and its hard to navigate to forums now.
On the main page there is only a button for recent topics, but how do you get to other forums? Its not intuitive, it takes a bit of searching and lots of clicking to figure it out. It used to have a way to see all the different games forums listed compactly and easily.
I personally don't like just reading the latest topics, way to many things I'm not interested in. So if I want to narrow it down to just areas I'm interested in I go where? Maybe there is a way to do it, but I doubt other casual readers/posters like me are going to bother trying to figure it out. Needs to be easily seen and simple.
Another thing, is big news worthy items are not really standing out to me. Right now all my son (college age) and his friends are talking about is some game called Among Us. Its all over my news feeds. Its blowing up steamcharts right now, but I don't see anything about it here. Maybe it doesn't fit MMORPGs perfectly, but would think a site like this would want to capitalize on it. If its here, well I didn't see it.
Anyways that's my 2 cents. Hope this site turns around, would hate to see it fade away.
I agree. My bookmark brings me directly to the forums:

From a community point of view, just post more. That's all we can really do, try to be more polite, offer constructive criticism and tell more jokes. I do think the banhammer has done some good around here over the last few years, it's just more noticable these days as a lot of the "normal" posters had already left. I don't mind posters like delete, it's never really much of a discussion with him directly, i think he just needed an outlet for his thoughts (however chaotic) but it spawned some fun threads.
From the owners point of view, write more articles about MMOs. If we're not talking by ourselves, the writers can stimulate more discussion themselves. They could do something like MOP's daily grind or massively overthinking - just random thoughts and musings for the community to discuss. As long as they don't say anything too obviously "wrong", it shouldn't turn into a flame war.
From the industries point of view, release some damn games! Or at least announce some games! But not crowd-funded, we seem to be all burnt out on the concept so every article about a crowd-funded mmo is just met with too much cynicism. That may start to change when (if) some of those games finally release.
I dont know who Delete is but they get lots of talk around here. What did they do that got them banned?
I don't think they got banned, I think he is just taking a break. He did announce a terminal illness a few months back so not certain he'll be back, but he's been a stalwart of these forums for years so I expect we'll here more from him.

I find way more news on MMOs off simple YouTubers. Often they are posting info that never makes it to this site or this site is 5-12 days behind. This site had a community that was here for MMO news. By adding new content they follow, instead of adding more, this site has also gotten lazy about reporting MMO news.

Maybe avoid that forums intended to be source of information and talk about a game, turn into toxic bashing. Some people use this site as their personal fun box

Were they camping the forum or just checking out the most recent posts on the site and handpicking what to respond to? I certainly have always just done the latter.
There honestly isn't that much to talk about with MMOs these days. At least not for me. I just occasionally rotate in an MMO to solo like WOW, GW2, SWTOR or LOTRO.

A few years ago he admitted using a "random thread generator" website and just copy+pasting onto these forums as a way to stimulate conversation and get some attention. It's why he often seemed self-conflicted: it's because he did actually disagree with his original posts, because they weren't really his.
The last couple of years he stopped doing that, now it's all about poor grammer and spelling, but that could have been due to the brain tumour he announced not that long ago.

Not much to talk about anymore. I seldom even look here in the forum at the threads but OP asked it has anything to do with the site change the answer is no. Just same old stuff with less infighting. If anyone wants to make a full blown MMO I put up an engine on GitHub that will do it. For me I check the place out a few times a year and move on.
When i get good PVE trinity gameplay, with no micro transactions we can talk about MMORPGs. Tried all the new ones and they are all single player games with no challenge and boring mission grind. I dont need voice acting, no challenge single player gameplay or forced PVP. I spent thousands of hours playing small group content with others and would love more of it but cant be found in MMORPG genre.
Mostly love support classes CC or healers but nothing fun out there in this new action type combat BS.

This forum, and all like MMO forums, have been slowly dying down for many years. It did seem to have an even more noticeable drop off in the last few months. But I don't see a correlation to the new site design, or owners. It was just the natural disinterest that a stagnant genre suffers.
I think we could help by doing more threads, this one is now on three pages as is the one I decided to do. If you give people the opportunity to post they will take it.

Those are two different people. The style of the former, his spelling, grammar and English totally differed. He had a spolight poster award which he would often brag about and at some point he was caught copy pasting stuff and then he admitted to it. I doubt he would have admitted to it if he hadn't been caught so flagrantly. However when he did post genuinely while trying to justify the thread his posts were far more coherent and he didn't make the consistent spelling mistakes the latter does and has done throughout his history on these boards.
