What is the viability of City of Heroes Homecoming?

For those in the know, what do you think the chances are that CoH Homecoming will be allowed to continue to run?  Have there been any indications that the owner of the IP may force them to shut down?

Thanks!

They could but they haven't and the servers are pretty popular and NCSoft knows about it. If they wanted to they could but haven't. They also are supposedly in negotiations of some sort with Homecoming people.

Things seem safe on the Homecoming servers, as well as the other private CoH servers, and I plan to continue playing on them for a long time.

I would put zero weight in Homecoming's 'negotiations' to purchase the CoH IP.  There has not been any real progress IMO (saying that the negotiation process has been 'good' and 'profitable' does not count; where's the beef?) towards a purchase.  Once they can list some details that actually indicate progress, then I'll believe them.  I don't buy the line that NCsoft is being ultra secretive.  The people that attempted to purchase the IP in 2012 were very forthright about what they were doing and who they were talking to.  And they also listed the setbacks and ultimate failures.  So I think if there has been real progress, they would have at least a few details to tell us.

I am quite sure that NCsoft is writing off the IP, and could care less if someone is using it as long as whoever is using the IP does not try to claim it.  Once the write-off is complete (I know nothing about Korean law, but in the US this process takes 14 years to complete) then we will likely see a sale, since it has been proven once again that enough people are interested in playing that a profit is easily makeable.

Oh hey, I didn't know you were here as well Glad. We've spoken on Ship of Heroes a few times.

Yeah, it's oddly quiet on that front. Personally, I hope they can buy the IP someday so they have the funding to dedicate more time and resources to improving CoH. In saying that, they've done a cracking job already and I hope they keep it up. If they get the IP, maybe they can make CoH a re-release and take it to even greater heights.
