Did they post anything to back it up or was it just player whingeing?

Yep, apparently they took it up slowly, if I may quote myself from a week ago, from the Tencent thread:
"As much as a Herbert fan I am (not as much as Tolkien  ), I really don't want to see what they will do with Dune... open world survival, game as shit service... no, thanks.
Exiles was an enough insult to AoC, but Dune won't even have an MMORPG version to compare. "

It was right in the investor's report, sadly. That's how Funcom (fun)communicates lately, the death of TSW/born of SWL appeared first in a financial report as well, so you need to read those if you really want to know what they're up to.

@Po_gg wrote that in another thread.

If that's the case that's probably true for every game that is developed in a publicly traded company.

They won't run to the players first and then tell the investors.

If this is true then it's a shame though I always thought they were never clear on what they were making. When it was in development I always thought, by its description, that it would be a very small game. Especially because it was supposed to have a LOT of cryptic quests where players would have to do a lot of searching, even on the internet, and deciphering of clues.

Then when they said it sold about 300k and they were disappointed, my reaction was "whoa!" as I thought that would have been about what the game should have been. But they thought it was going to be a lot more.

I don't know what it is with Funcom but they always have these great ideas and then someone (or several someones) always weirds them up.

Whoa, never thought I'll set foot again here after the forum category was renamed to Legends from TSW, and yet here I am - curse you Notification menu :)

So, far from me to defend this shit Legends, but that quote was totally misinterpreted.
I was talking about how Dune will be a simple survival game, and how it was already announced in the investor reports earlier, just apparently most people don't read those reports.
And then I cited, only as an example, of how the whole "we kill TSW and make Legends instead" was already told first in a similar report.

    And nothing more.
I most surely said nothing about Legends, since I keep that crap on full ignore, and I know nothing about it.
The last time I've heard anything was several months ago when I talked to the friend who bought my GM and he said he doesn't play anymore because it's empty and boring.

During the first year I might've enjoyed the news of Legends' end, but now, to be honest, I don't even care anymore. My only interest left with Funcom is AoC and AO, until they stay away from those and keep them in safe maintenance mode.

The way I am reading this it says:
The death of The Secret World and the birth of Secret World Legends appeared first in a financial report as well.

I would say he was just trying to back up his argument about the new Dune game with a statement from something that happened in the past (The "death" of The Secret World)

Ok I understand now. I totally misinterpreted what you wrote. My apologies on confusing everyone.
