I'm kinda conflicted - because even if the frontier system wasn't that great I already played (and I already own) Torchlight 1 and 2... So... I was more excited about a 'new thing' than playing the 'same thing again'. But I believe they'll improve some mechanics to make the game worth the sequel title - let's see.

Sometimes the new thing is worse.

In case of Torchlight Frontiers - it was a lot worse.

At least T3 can end up being a semi-decent game, which Frontiers wasn't ever going to be as the base design was a complete and utter failure. Glad they realized this.
Idk, man. As a costumer I'd rather have a complete so-bad-its-good failure rather than a mediocre game that adds nothing and experiments on nothing.

I have no desire (nor empathy) on their selling expectations nor market study.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'
