Growing MMORPG.com Into the Next Decade

For those who don’t know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joseph Bradford and I will be stepping into the role as MMORPG’s Managing Editor. Since 2012, I’ve written about video games and the industry as a whole on multiple outlets, such as IGN, Playboy, and GamesRadar among others. Since getting my start writing about LOTRO for Middle-earth News earlier this decade, my career has been a whirlwind. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best editors in our industry, make lifelong friends, and live out a dream I’ve had since I was a kid.

This website would be a lot better if it actually talked about mmorpgs instead of every shooter, BR and other craptastic game that most MMORPG players don't care about. Just my opinion.

I was just about to say the same thing, the dam URL is www.mmorpg.com, maybe the new blood can adhere to this genre. But we better stop, someone is going to get rubbed the wrong way and start screaming at us in 5, 4, 3, 2.......

The site evolved guys, that happens in life, I don't think anyone is going to start sceaming mind you.

Even back in the old days we were never just MMORPG players, so it made sense to branch out.

I hope that one of the new policies you enact is to ensure that articles (titles especially) are properly edited. The site could use a jumpstart in the "professionalism" area.

My next suggestion is to stop pandering to the F2P asian market. This will drop revenue in the short term, but if you can succeed in helping pull the genre out of this funk, it will only help revenue in the long term. The site is not doing itself nor the community any favors by adding to the hype machine for the latest and greatest re-skin microtransaction pice of garbage coming from the likes of Nexon, Netease or NCSoft.

Every game that is hyped here should be reviewed to ensure that it is up to the standard of what we as a community want to see. If not, the forums here will continue in the current dismal state they are in now, with the vast majority of posts being "Looking for a good game to play while I wait for XXX" or "Stay Away from this P2W" garbage.

Then you change the DNS entry, change your whole website to reflect that. Thats like bringing up a website about Ford Trucks, then constantly reporting on Ford cars, GM's, etc... It is not good practice and does not make any sense. So if the site evolved as you claim (which it has), then the site should reflect this.

While this might be the ideal approach, we've learned all too recently that journalism is not ever "neutral". Everything you do nowadays pushes the needle one way or another and it is myopic to think that this "neutral" method is indeed neutral. In an industry that lives and dies off view driven advertising and twitch/youtube hype, any clicks you give to promote games that thrive off the gambling addiction of vulnerable people, only monetize and incentivize the predatory behavior. 

You can either help to be part of the solution, or you can be part of the problem.
