Sometimes their descriptions are better than anything I can come up with... "Watch how Swen and the team managed to convince Wizards of the Coast to allow us to unleash our own brand of madness on Baldur's Gate! Its a harrowing tale of knights, vampire swords, abductions and the horrifying effects of ceremorphosis..."

This is REALLY cringe worthy. Having said that, it's nice to see people so excited about a project.

Still, really quite cringe worthy ...

Yeah, this is my fear too, that they will damage Baldur's Gate franchise with their usually childish writing. Well, not necessarily childish, but cringy for sure.

And that they won't live up the BG legacy. I just don't see Illithids being as interesting as Jonleth or Baltz. But they did mention kidnapping and tests that lead to cere...sounds promising.

    Really?

I've always thought Mind Flayers were one of the best parts of Dungeons and Dragons. Also come to think of it, it's called "Baldur's Gate" for a reason. It's about what happens in and around Baldur's Gate. Could be puppies and it would still apply as long as the puppies were causing cute havoc in "Baldur's Gate!!!!"

Maybe you guys don't remember this but this developer is the same one that released one of their Divine Divinity games, received horrible feedback about the main character's voice acting, and then re-did the voice acting for free. Only other developer that I know of that is so open and cares about their stuff is CD Projekt Red.

But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.

They are cool, don't get me wrong, but if they try to make them unto a main antagonist of sorts...tsk...that'd be completely wrong. They should be a part of the game, but BG3 needs Maugrim, needs Jonleth or even Thaos.

And don't forget that the best part of Baldur's Gate don't actually have anything to do with actual Baldur's Gate. And that's what the players will compare 3 to, alongside the quite perverted nostalgic reenactment thereof. I hope they can slay this Grendel and deliver unto us a hell of a game.

The writing is the one area that worries me. A lot. It is the reason the OS games were just ok to me. Gameplay is fun I guess ( other than the terrible pacing) but a crpg is all about the story for me. Their writing is trite at best and cringeworthy at worst.
BG 3 deserves a finely crafted story.
I hope they have brought some people on board outside their normal developer team to handle it.

Didn't think so. I don't see how the criticism applies here then. They can make campy vids all they want for all I care.

I agree with the concerns about the writing. IWDs dialog and plot is pretty cringy, but it offers a lot more freedom for your adventuring party without breaking the main plot. You can't really have that flexibility in BG I or II without missing out on a lot. Hopefully they will bring on some quality writers focus on the story while offering flexibility in party design. For the author, how about Troy Denning?

These guys poured a lot of love into DOS 2. Sven loved BG so much he approached them before about making this game. He loves gaming and he loves BG - he will do his best to lead the studio into making a passion project. Don't assume what must be, enjoy what could be. For any naysayers, show me another studio that will do BG justice like these nerds will...

For me it is not naysaying it is keeping things realistic and keeping perspective. Many classics have come back recently and not all in a good way. Even some handed to or handled by very talented developers. I know of 7 studios who approached Wizards with their pitch for this game. Larian is a fine studio (for what they do)
Let's hope they create a fresh experience worthy of the lineage of the series.
Harebrained would have been my choice to develop since I know Obsidian was not interested at this time.

I liked the old voices especially the old cheese vendor and how he'd say, "Nobody has as many friends as a man with maaaany cheeeeses." sounding like a carnie style vendor. I loved that. The new won sounded more polished but lacked the character. What the original voice acting lacked in "hollywood" polish it made up for in personal character. Just my opinion of course. I do think it was great of them to bring that update for free and not charge for it.

well, as @Sovrath said this IS cringe worthy... but I guess that's the type of people who just MIGHT be able to deliver a good RPG first and foremost... I watched the video to the end, so they kept my interest at least there (even though it IS cringe worthy)

Spiderweb would have been the ultimate choice in my opinion. They have been one of the reasons crpgs are even around anymore at all. When the genre was nearly abandoned Vogel and team just kept plugging away makes fantastic games in the genre. With a budget to create this title? They could have made a transcendent title. Like I said, I am sure this will be a decent game. Time will determine if it will be a special one.
