The below video inspired me.
I'm a very life active person.  But I could be turned into a lazy-sack-of-shit given the right kind of game.   But in order to be a good-for-nothing, and the wife telling me I'm always playing "that game", It has to subconsciously suck me into the world.

It's not healthy.  My eyes will always be red, my senses in Real life will be dulled (not in game).  People will tell me "Dave, you look tired".  To make matters worst, It's best if I DON"T explain a video game as the cause.  This doesn't go over well.... They don't understand and never will.

Don't laugh !!!... If your interested in Pantheon, this is what you want too.
To challenge this is to not play as intended.  Go play GuildWars 2 for ten minuets because thats something different all together.
Scary  :#

Magical Mystery...... I wan't to spend hours searching for that spell book "cone of cold".  Using the perception system, I want to know things others don't.  But I will craft you in-expansive bags to be your friend.

Don't call me when your car is stuck in a ditch.... Don't count on me for nothing !.... I'll be playing Pantheon.

Here, watch this:

The madness is real - I guess now you are back on Pantheon wagon again - you'll probably be off and back on in the next 30 seconds.

    30 seconds later :)
    I fixed it,

It take a lot of energy out of a person to maintain what I described in the original post.  This is what a true mmorpg will do to a player.

I could have this feeling temporarily with off-line games but seem to balance out in a few days and just enjoy.  A good mmorpg could last months into years.  It could be very tiring, and not healthy gone unchecked.....Even critical.

I'm married for a year and a half.  I joke with the wife about the romance stage and the honeymoon stage, were we play the googly eyes thing...... We would be exhausted if we tried to maintain that stage forever.

Unless your wife will be playing along side you, don't expect to be playing as much as you described.

Wives don't tolerate such behaviors for long......well not unless they have some side action of their own going on.

    One did Swing Dancing
One did Yoga and Circus Arts
And my current girlfriend does Martial Arts and rides a motorcycle (of all things)

So I always play my video games on my own time.

"My own time...." after 3 children and 36 years of marriage I'm not sure what that actually means.

I game on a laptop so I can be "in the room" with her while she watches her TV.

I'm pretty awesome  at replying appropriately as if I'm actually paying attention when I'm really not.

My wife complains no matter what I do and never appreciates what I do for her. It doesn't help that I work 80+ hours a week and get called in at all times of the day, but oh well.

She lets me play my video games and she watcher her stupid TV, but then again, i'm the only one wasting my time :), watching TV for her isn't a waste of time . . .

My wife doesn't care now. It probally helps that I work from home so we are together 24/7 just about so me going off to play video games is our time apart so to speak. She usually turns on Roku and watches Teen Mom and at the moment I have been playing AC: Oddessy. The hardest part is my six month old little girl.

I don't expect Pantheon until 2022 or later so by that time I should have time to play Pantheon.
Pantheon was announced 2014 ... if it gets out 2022 its very, very late.

I want them to not publish until its finished, just like Bioware did it back in the days. But 2022 would be kind of absurd. I sure hope they manage late 2020 or sometimes during 2021.

There's definitely an audience for time consuming games. Many MANY people play WoW for hours and hours. I know--I have proof. The difference is WoW  can be played in small chunks of time, so even mommy and daddy (or parent) can play it without feeling tied down. Everquest was different, especially if you were in a group. Organizing a good group and arriving at its target camp could require a half hour or more, even in a guild. There was no dungeon finder, so you had to know the dungeons and where they were. Everquest didn't have in-game maps for about 3 years, either. Traveling required time and awareness as well, since there were cinvis and mounts weren't easily available until much later. There were solo-capable classes, but the bulk of the MMO was group-dependent, so time demands were predominant. Your group members placed expectations on you. It was much harder to go afk on a whim. Too much AFKin and group members would leave or disband you from the group. Additionally, it was much easier to die when you were AFK than most modern MMORPGs. Mobs easily aggroed, there were cinvis, mobs could be pulled across the zone, effects faded, there were many pathers and more. You had to know the safe spots, and even then there was little guarantee you'd be ok when you got back--even feign death capable classes couold be reaggroed after FD  broke.

This is exactly why so many players felt MMORPGs were dumbed down after Everquest, for the privilege of those with more time constraints or responsibilities outside the game. It's mildly true. Think about what's written above. It's about high standards of alertness and commitment. This facilitated a strong feeling of accomplishment and connection to the game world. When these things were loosened in MMORPGs like WoW, some players from Everquest felt like the experience was being cheapened.

So the question I'd have regaridng Pantheon would be: Is there a way to preserve the sense of high standards, whilst also allowing those with time constraints and RL responsibilities to play comfortably?

When I fist got married back in 2001, my wife absolutely hated the fact that I played mmo's. I was playing EQ at the time, and she threw my pc out the window, out of anger.

But over time, she kinda got used to me playing. So we don't fight anymore. But I can tell she really isn't overly happy. Also it helps that my daughter is now grown up and into MMO's. So I have support on my side..lol

THe world in 2019 is light years different than it was in 1999. I played EQ also and remember the incredible amounts of time that were needed to play if you wanted to prrogress much at all. I just don't think I have, nor want to, the time to committ to that kind of game again. I remember the frustrations of people constantly leaving the group in EQ. I always played a class that could gate or teleport just so I wouldnt get stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no way back.

At least 75% of women are irrational when it comes to video games - like someone said they see  video gaming as a waste of time, but not watching TV or practically any hobby other than video games.  I'm too old to put up with that ridiculous double standard and won't likely find the 5% of that 25% that might also put up with my other faults so... lol  When's those robot girlfriends coming now?

The simplest solution is finding those in a similar situation. Whether it be rl friends who play, random guildies, or strangers you meet while soloing the overland. I regularly gamed with 2 others and our time would vary between 30 min and 2hrs of game time in a night. If it was the short duration we would hang together killing overland mobs, if it were longer we would go somewhere more interesting. On p99 we were able to progress at a reasonable pace and got to experience crawls through Befallen, Unrest, Nagafen, Solar a and b, tower of frozen shadows - sometimes with just the 3 of us, other times with random people added as they came by. Even with limited time there is opportunity to do a lot, people seem to get stuck on the idea of being alone and trying to get a full group together before doing anything, that doesn't need to be the case, play smarter not longer and you have a lot you can do

My longest AFKing in EQ was around 10 hours which I admit is not the norm. When I came back I was still alive and had gained half a level. The bad thing was when someone fell asleep while playing. We would try to make his character crash or try and get groups in the area to look after him or her if we had to leave.
A lot of areas had places where you could afk and mobs could not attack you. I would use these if I had to afk for a bit and was solo. Note if you stayed in one of those areas for long, you probably get the notice of a GM as they were often exploitable areas also. Once when I ended up afking for longer than I expected like around 4 or so hours. When I got back and started to leave, I got a message from a GM asking if I knew that was an exploitable location. I replied back that " yeap I know and if you check I reported it in beta. When are yall going to fix it?  It turns out he/she had been watching me for almost the whole time waiting for me to actually do something bad.

I also have hope that they have a way to break up long events like dungeon runs into shorter periods of time instead of one long event so even someone time limited can eventually get to the big boss at the end.
