Good morning everyone,
For the last several days I've been playing a "really good" RPG thats completely off the mainstream radar.  This game is called Antharion.  I found it on Steam on sale for $5 but now its $15.  I must say it's worth $15 if you looking for something to play now and have a little cash laying around.

Several months ago I played Balder's Gate.  I have to say I liked it and logged many hours, but eventually it wore me down with it's boring combat and EXTREMELY TEDIOUS MANAGEMENT.  I really want to go on but I'll leave it at that.

Antharion - Same exact thing !.... 50% less tedious !.... More enjoyable because of it.  However class design could get VERY complicated quickly.  Why ?... Because combat strategy dictates a need to multi class your four characters.  Casters run out of mana, best to skill them up in Melee.  And Melee don't have the range, so Archery helps to solve that.

Like Baldur's Gate the world is full of interesting treasures hidden everyplace around the world and several layers deep in dungeons. I REALLY think this is what fascinates me the most in this style of Old School.... This game will not let you down, easily the same as BG !

Spending points is a major balancing act.  You need to increase your combat, yet you need to increase your lock picking, barter, lore, alchemy and others.  Problem being only five points per level per character.

I few tricks you should know:
-Make your tank first(front line), and casters last during character creation, this can not be changed later.
-Males make the best melee, females make the best casters.
-Understand all jobs before spending points, assign who will have what, and stick to it.
-Alchemy seems important, vender's run out of mana potions.

Casters:
Black Magic- combat, high mana cost (suggest multi class in melee or archery for no mana)
White Magic- healing,  low mana cost (suggest multi class in Gray Magic)
Gray magic- crowd control, and mis. (not worth being a main cless)

Ranger- archery is a must, very powerful
Warrior- two handed
Fighter- one handed and shield

9 classes in all, did not study others.

I really want to find a spell "cone of cold" it's the cat's ass crowd control but for Black Magic.  It's hidden in the world someplace, can't find it yet, and the vendors don't have it so far.... I'LL FIND IT !

Baldur's Gate lite.....More enjoyable because of it :)

    No !
And it's not "easy mode game play" and doesn't have a cash shop like an mmorpg.

I do say, I really like it.  It's exactly like BG but for the extreme tedious.
    Please tell us other options?

    More is better :)

Maybe if I use it in tandem with Loot Box Simulator it will feel like a proper MMORPG? :)

Anything from Spiderweb software would be a better option.
    This game bleeds generic.
    Try Avernum or Avadon series

    WoW both look great.

I added them on my steam wish list :)

Great choice ,  sooo many hours of entertainment from Spiderware ..

       Ill add...

Heroes of Steel is really well done ...

Warhammer Quest ....  Love this one .. tactical combat and world are topnotch ....

Warhammer Quest 2 is due 1/31/19 and looks to be a good sequel WHQ 1 ,,,,

Drakensang 1 and River of Time imo are both better than BG ( dont judge these grainy vids , it looks much better than that)

Icewind Dale , i also enjoyed more than  BG ...

         Have Fun ...

Some very good suggestions, I added many to my wish list.

The great thing about Antharion is extrem casual.

It can be played with your feet up using the mouse, and on occasion press the x or space bar keys.  Menus are straight forward and the game is very relaxing with moderate thinking involved.  Mistakes in making decisions can slowly be solved over time as you level.

The game is simple, but not overly simple.  Where as the other's suggestions seem equal to Baldur's Gate in complexity.  I'm looking forward to them also.

    Baldur's Gate lite !
