Since it's a quasi-MMO, don't count on no cash shop. That said, I don't get why people feel they have to spend money in a cosmetic-only shop. I very rarely do and enjoy myself immensely in every game I play where the gameplay is good.

So much angst when we simply don't know anything about monetization yet. *shrugs* I guess we'll know in time.
To be fair we have reason to have angst with Perfect World funding the project and monetizing the title. If their other cash shop titles are to be a base for this one then it will be more than just cosmetics.

I love the art and camera for this. It looks like so much fun. I hate Diablo 2 and PoE style. So depressing and not fun. I enjoy things that make me smile and feel good and that is what this art does for me.

Because when the game doesn't have a cash shop at all, it plays differently and that's what I'm interested in.When I play games now that don't have a cash shop it's like an entirely different world and experience. I missed that.

It's not just a cash shop either, it can be a subscription or any sort of endless revenue stream. I do see value in a service, but the value in game services have dwindled for me.

For the $15 - $30 a month a sub with some cash shop costs I can buy PSNow, PSPlus, Origin All Access, Xbox Live, or any combo of that and get a lot more value.

You bring up a good point though and that is paying for games. I'm do believe in paying for entertainment. I like it when everyone contributes something and no one is able to throw big money at it. Gaming is about an experience and mixing money into the recipe changes everything.

I am hoping it is a buy to play model. Not a subscription.  Pay for Frontier Expansions. I think.
If the game has a cash shop at all I'm out. I'm so tired of getting milked. If it is truly B2P then I'll play it. I love hack-n-slash looters. I liked TL2 well enough modded. But no cosmetic cash shop, no paying for respecs with real money. No R.M.T.

If people want to play whale driven gaming, that's fine. PoE is popular and people love it, but I hate it. I have a few of those left that I'm winding down and I'm trying really hard not to pick any more up.
    Yeah right there with ya.
After years of being nickel and dimed it is getting harder and harder to keep supporting companies that continue to do it. (I helped contributed to this with Bless)
It is getting worse too. ActivBlizz made $4 billion last year in microtransactions alone. $4 billion! Companies like PWE would never release this game as a B2P only game. Just no way. The cash shop will be front and center just like their other games. Shame too, they own a few quality IPs (Star Trek, D&D, Torchlight and their upcoming game Remnent) but their GaaS model ruins the experiences. Torchlight as was known is dead. Long live the cash shop.
I think they'll be fine games. I don't want to do that anymore. It's really that simple. I hate the experience not the game itself.

And yeah, I can't see PW going light on a new revenue opportunity. They're not wired that way.

Yeah, take care Scorch. I'll be thinking of you. My wife had her second knee replaced this summer. It's a lot of work, but very rewarding. She can walk normally again.

That is the key that I think people are missing.

When you have multiple revenue streams built into the game it changes the way the game is designed and therefore played.
Level gating, inventory management, experience gain, armor designs, weapon cosmetics, amount of gold able to carry, chatting, auctioning and even classes and maps.

Cash shops change the game and the experience with it.

Many are choosing to not reward games that champion this behavior anymore.

Guys, Path of Exile has the perfect monetization. It is all cosmetics and stash tabs which are QoL improvements which are not necessary. Yes, the stash tabs help, i'm not going to lie, as well as the premium stash tabs, but it is a free game, there is no P2W, just a slight push to get stash tabs. It is perfectly fine. GGG is an amazing company that gives out a free game, they need money to continue and stash tabs are perfectly fine.

There is a difference between P2W bullshit vs appropriate monetization and GGG hits it perfectly.

Neverwinter isn't even close to PoE. That game has huge P2W bullshit compared to PoE.

If I wasn't such a cheap fuck, i'd give them $1,000 for what the amazing game they've given me. I'd also ask to make a unique . . . Cryomatrix's Battle Hammer :)

Yeah PWE has me being very careful of how hyped i get for this. I can see them filling this game with lootboxes with text scrolls across the screen saying what someone got in a lootbox like they do with Star Trek Online.

Because it's an isometric aRPG, not an arcade game?

I know choice is good. They should add both but if it's one or the other, it has to be click to move otherwise it's not Torchlight.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

This is true, but that was before I became jaded with them, lol.

You people need to stop saying this. PWE had nothing to do with T1 or T2. PWE bought Runic long after those games came out. You can buy T1 and T2 on steam and GOG too. Stop spreading wrong info please.

Please be good, please be good, please be good.

And please no constant trying to force your hands into my wallet, if I like your game, I will spend money on it do not worry!.  You do not need to hound me every time I log in with your latest "offers" or "suggested purchases".

In other words, don't be like Neverwinter's cash shop.

Seems like most of us agree that the buy to play model is the least annoying model to impose on players if it's not gonna be subscription based (which it won't be) Keep in mind the other side will be screaming about it if it is, just look at Clicker Heroes 2.

This is going to be free to play with a cash shop, the real question is how good will the game be and what items will be sold? If it's just appearance items then whatever. If it's time gate reduction items, XP gain and buff items that make the game less annoying to play and almost set the progression to normal, then I'm out.

I'm trying to stay positive because Torchlight was such a pleasant surprise when I was put on to it.

I'd rather pay these guys a monthly fee then have them piss on everybody and call it rain each time they update the cash shop. I have a feeling it's going to start as pets and skins but as their "metrics" start showing them nobody really cares enough about that, they're going to start f#$%ing the game off and create problems, to upsell a solution/cure.

    Next thing you know they go full Thorin/Dragon Sickness mode talking about;
