However what little workforce is left still manages to churn out an expansion and charge up to $140, sadly focus and in some cases just plain talent have been sadly lacking.
All that said still play the game, and its been nearly 20 years so maybe im overly cynical and jaded at the new pups trying to run the game.
Seems to be a common thing now with newbies running games. WoW is being ran by kiddies doing horrible things, the EQ franchises are being ran by skeleton crews and clueless devs. Each game just keeps getting worse. Sad sad times for MMO’s
. It’s all about the dollar now and less about quality.
That's unfortunately video games as a whole. It's big business now. There are so many multi Billion dollar publishers now who own the development studios. It's sad that developers sold out to publishers. When publishers call the shots it's really shareholders calling the shots.
The days of developers making great games and either selling that great game to a publisher or just signing publishing deals are over. Now the publishers just make virtual goods with low(est) risk and highest margins. Low risk and creativity just don't go together.
Even (IMO) great publishers like Take Two Interactive have finally started bending the knee to shareholders and the market as whole. Luckily with them they still make great games then whore them out (GTA V, RDR2 - once Online Mode hits).
Sadly I fear and genuinely believe, the days of great games that produce profit are never coming back. It's likely only great profit machines we call games from here on out.
