Bump - this needs more visibility.

Come on people - freakin Bards Tale Trilogy remastered - I am totally replaying all of it again.

For RPG fans who never played this - this will be the best $15 spent of your life.

IMO this is one of the best RPG trilogies of all time.

    And here's some important bits

    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/323806/inXile_Entertainment_Announces_Aug_14_2018_Release_Date_for_The_Bards_Tale_Trilogy_Remaster.php

Features of The Bard’s Tale Trilogy include:

    • Remasters of all three original The Bard’s Tale games. The first volume, Tales of the Unknown, is available at launch, with The Destiny Knight (fall 2018) and Thief of Fate (winter 2018) arriving later in the year.
    • A uniform playing experience across all three titles without the need for emulation or compatibility concerns.
    • Create a party in the first volume and play it across all three volumes to create a heroic narrative all your own.
    • For the first time, play as male or female across all three games. Also includes other quality-of-life changes such as automapping for all three games, spell access, and updated equipment/inventory management.
    • Updated art that holds true to the spirit of the originals, featuring never-before-used character art by series creator Michael Cranford!
    • An opportunity for new players to experience the events that led to The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep and The Mage’s Tale!
    • The final content to be released will be a Legacy Mode, a set of options which allows players to make the titles play similarly to the 1980s originals… with all the challenge that entails!

Ditto - if there is anything that will make me drop all other games just to play this - Bards Tale is it!

Is it going to include the book you had to look up DRM codes in?  I've still got mine.

This is fantastic!  Maybe now I'll finally finish part II and part III.  I only ever finished the first one, but damn did I have so much fun playing those games!!!!

I really, really hope they made big changes in controls, but if not it looks like they added mouse functionality for movement, and hopefully the whole UI.

I don't know if I'm alone in this or not but I'm too old to relearn super savage control schemes.  And the controls for these games were really, really bad.  Much worse than you're thinking in your head right now if you weren't playing games during this time.  This was during a phase when developers seemed to want to break your mind by including every key on the keyboard as a control and thought mouse functionality was for losers.

I couldn't play the WL version that came with WL2 due to savage controls, but I don't think that was a remaster.

I wonder why they are releasing this before BT4.  I think it might hurt sales of BT4 if kids relate the products in their mind and try this first.  But I'm also one of the few people my age that seems to be far more excited for BT4 than the remastered trilogy so I obviously don't have my finger on the pulse of what older people want, never mind what kids want.

The Bards Tale 4 Kickstarter was the best deal ever. I think for $20 I got Bard’s Tale 4, Bards Tale 1,2,3 And Wasteland 2.

    Looking forward to this!

Oh I don't know, I didn't pay attention to that, just that "I backed 4." However, it seems that steam is offering them for free anyway.

Ah ok, it seems that it's "Legacy Mode" that is available for free.

I was going to ignore despite my forum avatar being derived from the first game until I noticed they added automapping.

No way could I go back to graph paper, especially in those totally dark zones with spinners and teleporters, those were brutal back in the day.

    Soon...

Here's how the process will work.

    • Starting Tuesday, backers at the $20 reward tiers and above will receive an email from CrowdOx asking you to specify either a Steam or GOG key for the game. Remember to keep an eye on your spam/filter folders in case it ends up there.
    • Soon after you make that selection, you will receive another email - the latest edition of your Digital Fulfillment email, this one now containing your chosen code.
    • Once you receive the code, you can follow these instructions on how to redeem it for Steam and GOG.

    A few things to remember:

    • The Bard's Tale Trilogy is currently Windows only and contains the first volume. The latter two volumes, along with the Legacy Mode, arrive later in the year.
    • Please keep in mind that we have tens of thousands of backers to send keys and emails to. It will likely take a little while for the full list to be processed, so don't panic if your digital fulfillment email does not arrive right away. We appreciate your patience.
