But, whats wrong with it? There are still billions of Ultima lovers that haven't heard about it, I would love for a big marketing push to happen so the entire world can witness the glorious game that is SotA.

The above is me acting snarky while in reality being quite sad it turned out the way it did. I love Garriot and I loved Tabula Rasa, not this mess though.

It does seem like a step backwards instead of forwards based on the games he's done in the past but with a modern price tag.

I wonder if they will let it die.

Tabula Rasa died for different reasons, now that Garriot has "full control" over the game will he let it die or keep it on life support?

One thing is for sure if they shut it down, give it 5 years top, and he will be back telling us how only HE can save the MMO industry and how his next project will be revolutionary. People will throw money at him and they will be disappointed. Again.

Yeah, but what about the "millions" of former Ultima players who aren't even aware SotA exists?

Richard is sure they will come running once they know he has a new game out.

I'm new to mmorpg, I could be a whale or a large fish lol.   I had two Player towns currently down to 1 market town, and another for Ep2 coming.   Myself I disagree with alot of what I am reading in this thread.  Seems like alot of you are disappointed that a feature was not implemented, or that your vision didnt match what the Development team was doing.  Needless to say the game is not going to die off any time soon and continues to be fleshed out further.   I think the only failure on SOTA's part was having the game go persistent to soon.   If anything I think the release should have been persistent time and around last patch or two that it should have gone live for all.  I look forward to seeing where things are at by the end of the year.

Yes, they have been persistent for over two full years now, they launched in 2016 if you look at their numbers.  They have never been able to reach concurrency like when they entered persistence.

More than 67,000 people purchased this game and over a quarter of a million people are registered for their forums and newsletters.  Right now on Steamcharts they have 205 people playing.

People are definitely disappointed for many reasons, practically everyone.

haha like what 6-10 people in this forum vs all the rest in their forums.   I think there only a few that are really disappointed (PVPers and solo players)  PVPers wanted the same loot all system, and Solo players wanted ultima 6 like game.   The rest are happy short of the polish which they are really focused on.  As to Steam like Richard and the few on her have said that is not the primary game launcher and most likely will never be.   Steam was a mistake for SOTA in having it so soon.  Most steam users expected a completed game even though it said alpha.  I can tell from all the reviews during Alpha which they didn't like because nothing was working well during that stage.  Fast forward to today and you see a lot of good stuff.  There is only this forums and a few others including Reddit areas where you see a lot of negative.  Also those that are completely against being able to sell or buy things with real money ;)

I Think the issue is that there were a bunch as Drac said that thought the single player was going to be a Ulitma single type game like that of old.  I could see why some would for sure be upset over that.   The other PVP crowed only some didn't like that the new system was not full loot.  There was a video on why they didn't go that route, and I believe it was more to appeal to the larger crowed.  To be honest I wish they would make a full pvp server like they did in UO that way both sides can play as they wish.  I do know PVP stuff is not completed though.  They built Obsidian Trials for testing some additional systems and rule sets to better flesh out castle sieges and the likes.  They have a title system and pvp reward system in now with obsidian which is the start of what other games do.   As far as the rest of the game, I rather like it which is why I invest in it.   I have seen some of the long term plans and know the direction they are going which is why I will continue to support.  Every system I have come up with in the Dev+ section has been added short of governor taxes which most likely will never happen.

There were also some who were made on release that they didn't wipe as they didn't like that there was already GM players as well the NPC towns were full which they seem to think are the best places to live.  Personally out of 26 properties that I currently have non are in NPC towns.  I prefer player towns and markets.  Some are done up really well, and the player market out sell all the NPC towns.  Only benefit to being in NPC town is the basic trainers and the see merchants.  Which are so minor compared to being in a good location that you can sell.

There was people that complained a lot about houses costing to get, but that was resolved with the free starter house for completing the main story.  Its a POT only deed anyways so those that wanted to be in the NPC towns still need a PA deed from the store or other players.

P2W is another issue some bring up based on my reading of this forum.  This is only an issue for die hard PVPers which I do agree that anything can be bought or sold in this game for real money.  That is how the player market was designed.    Its super easy to get money once you save up for a Vendor and have the free row.   (they fixed the regular vendors now that charge a tax to list) it now takes the taxed % out after the sale which was one of the biggest issues I think for all.  nothing like getting an artifact that you cant sell on a vendor because it would cost you more gold then you could make as a noob.

I feel they are taking the game in the right direction and agree with some of the posts here that every patch it really is getting pretty awesome.  Player dungeons is going to be huge and what I have seen already of the system they are putting in next 2 patches I'm stoked.

Nice narrative meta.  You messed up the part where the forums and moderators ran everyone off that didn't want RMT.

The state of things, you have yourselves to thank.  I'm glad you can enjoy playing a RMT game with only a few hundred other people, everyone running metas and trying to get whitelisted by the devs so they're always kissing ass and writing up these flowery narratives trying to recruit new sheep.

It's super easy to promise the world... still waiting on those Kickstarter deliverables promised back in 2013.  But youyou right, I'm sure these new dungeons that don't exist will solve all the problems.

What is a meta?  I didnt mess up anything in what I said.   Not sure where you are going with the forum stuff?

As to the State of things, I love the game again not sure where you are going with that and what you mean whitelisted and meta again?   You clearly dont like the game I can see that lol.   But I am not kissing any ass or trying to recruit people.  I'm stating that I enjoy what I am playing which is why I came to this site to being with to find information and the likes on the game.

The world is always what we want, we do not always get what we desire but we get through it :)  Hope yours mails out next week along with the rest I am sure we will have them soon enough.

Player Dungeons is pretty exciting for me.  I can't wait.  next patch they have placeholder (sample dungeons in) as they were originally slated for EP2 but as Chris (dev) stated in the videos they should have it done for sure in the next few patches as they already have the systems and the tools developed from before.

PS.  your a strange person lol.  Not sure why you hang out in the forum if you don't like the game or seem obsessive over things.   Maybe I'm strange , but I could not see myself spending any time in a forum of a game I wouldn't play.

Dungeons will be like the homes, many new decorations for whales to buy all the time.  The graphics will be bad, the mechanics will be highly exploited but there will always be lots of decorations to buy.   It's no surprise why this is the priority now.  You RMT people made SOTA terrible. RMT is against the rules.  Anyone doing it is cheating the game, but the devs allow for some reason.  It doesn't give them enough money to make the game better, so they have to do telethons, and dance like fools every week now.  You should show some appreciation.  If it wasn't for the 60k people that were lied to and mislead into buying this game you and your whale buddies would have nothing right now.

More than 67,000 people purchased this game and over a quarter of a million people are registered for their forums and newsletters.  Right now on Steamcharts they have 205 people playing.

People are definitely disappointed for many reasons, practically everyone.
Even if the lie of "1000+ players" they are spamming was true, the number would still be way too low to delay the inevitable death. But it's much worse - Steamcharts is showing numbers between 230 and 70...accounts. With all the bots, multiple accounts etc. - say, 70 can come from virtually a dozen real players.

A number that should be compared to Darkstarr's "50 000", "quarter of a million" and "millions from Ultima", to understand the scale of this trainwreck.

Yes they will be like house able to place decor in them for sure.  You do know that you can craft pretty much everything.  The store only offers "ornate" versions of what can be crafted.  They do look better in some cases for sure.   Either way it does not matter , a lot of games offer skins for money, I can't think of any in the last few years that don't.   I really hope they do have a lot of decor to buy as well craft that would be fantastic.

RMT has always been part of their player market setup, not sure what you are reading.  They only allow this to be done through their Player market forum section.   All can use to buy / sell and Trade.  Outside of that player market is against the rules only.

Twitch streams with donations allows them to make the content we want.  You don't have to spend a dime if you don't want.    Any rewards for donations can be bought from other players if you are not the type to contribute making the game better.  That is why this is called a player backed game.

The Social aspects of the game like Role playing and Dance parties are added fun or fund raisers for outside charities.  Not sure if you are aware of that.  The last event Shooter Jennings launched his new album in game and the proceeds went to Breast Cancer Society.   Again its up the the players if they want to donate to anything, anyone can attend these events and not have to spend a dime.  you obviously don't support charities.  This game does a lot of things for various charities perhaps you should look into that before you start to sound like an a$$hat.

Only thing misleading is what people thought this would be.  If you read everything from kickstarter they promised is pretty much in or still being worked on.  only a few small in game loot items where changed but a replacement was offered, and the timeline was the other thing that changed.  The rest of what they said would be in ep1 is there.  The boxes are the last part to complete the full fillment of ep1.

All games end eventually this is fact :)

As to populations does not matter.  look at this:

    https://mmo-population.com/

there are many games that have very few that are still running today with little to know income streams.   SOTA has a lot of income streams beyond the donations so I don't see development stopping nor the servers going dark anytime soon no matter how many of the 6 people on this forum believe vs the 1000+ playing :)

All games end eventually this is fact :)

As to populations does not matter.  look at this:

there are many games that have very few that are still running today with little to know income streams.   SOTA has a lot of income streams beyond the donations so I don't see development stopping nor the servers going dark anytime soon no matter how many of the 6 people on this forum believe vs the 1000+ playing :)

How do you filter the list to see games that just released a few months ago?

It doesn't really matter, the funny "lot of income streams beyond the donation" would be reflected in the money sums from the official documents (hint: they are not).

haha like what 6-10 people in this forum vs all the rest in their forums.
I suggest you read up on the Steam reviews.

I dont call that a few and it is both PvP players and the one's looking for the next UltimaVII.

I would call the one's that dont fit in those two categories for very few people.

Not listening to the majority of their community was developers biggest mistake. Now they have few players that paid alot to get their type of game, too bad that type of game isnt what the majority wanted.
