Returning Player Looking For Advice

I had always enjoyed GW2. It wasn't the greatest game ever, but when I was active, I had a good guild and we had a lot of fun. But then, I had moved on. I came back and bought HoT, started leveling a Rev and was thoroughly disappointed and barley even touched that content. I swore then I was done with this game. However, after a number of reviews, I decided to give POF a try and bought it. But now I am lost. I don't recognize my skills and abilities. I have gear sets that appear to be all but useless.

Are there some good resources out there I can brush up with?
Making gold?
How to get Ascended gear?
Leveling Crafting?
Best way to unlock new skills, abilities, elite roles, etc.

As I am now, I feel like I am actually in a worse position with several 80s than I'd be if I were to start fresh.

When I return to play a game that has changed a lot, I usually create a new character and play until I get use to the game again.  Did you get a level 80 bump with HoT, if you did it comes with the needed gear and weapons if I remember correctly and you can play it as long as you want in Silverwastes until you decide to make it permanent.

I have 2 unused I believe. But I wasn't aware they came with gear. But if I roll a new one, I am not sure what to roll in that case

The biggest concern I have with re rolling a new character is crafting. Unless it's gotten a lot easier to level to 400. (That's as far as I had gotten back when it was the cap

Role whatever you think you would like to play.  Easiest starting classes are Necro and Ranger for me starting as a human.  But feel free to play a lot of them until you find a class you will enjoy.  If you don't like it you can always delete your new low level class later if you want.

Can't help much with crafting.  I leveled a few characters up to max crafting level but don't do too much with crafting as I'm not really into it.  But I found it pretty easy when I did do it.

The easiest way to gain points to unlock the new specialisations is simply by playing the new areas.
Every hero challenge gives you 10 points as opposed to 1 from the core game zones.
You may also go back to the HoTs zones where the same applies but if the area bugged you last time you probably shouldn't.
Trust me you aren't the only one who quit because the HoTs zones are so difficult to solo.

An easy way to get ascended weapons now is a scavenger hunt for your specialisation weapon.
Once you unlocked a specialisation (no need to finish it) it unlocks a collection achievement.

    Achievements > Collections > Specialisation

    @GeezerGamer

First, welcome back to GW2, I know how it feels to return to the game after a long break, I did the same thing myself after HoT and only came back for PoF.

First. My advice is take some time and roam around Core a bit. While a lot has changed, also a lot has remained the same.

Your combat skills are all still what they used to be, the core stuff has not been revamped, or modified in any major sense.

Elite Specs are the same that was in HoT, just with more added with PoF. So nothing new on that level. Just do map Events, like Hero Points, you get 10 for each Hero Point in HoT or PoF, and 1 for Core. For me, personally, I just did WvW, and traded Proofs of Heroics for Hero Points.

Crafting is still capped at 500, which has been the case for a long time, since ascended was put in, I think in early 2013. So Crafting is what is has always been. Guide here.

Ascended Gear is pretty easy, kinda. You can still just do Fractals an get it in Loot Boxes, or craft it. its not that hard, just get whatever you want to 500, and then it's simply a materials sink.

Gold is Now easy, you get 2 gold from doing daily alone.

As for "roles" they don't come into a play till T4 Fractals or Raids, otherwise, roles are vastly irrelevant in this game as they always have been.

if you are looking for Build Advice, I'd suggest Metabattle, or if you are just looking to make your own, or see what is out there. This is still one of the best Build Editors out there.

Anyway.. have fun and welcome back!

For the record I am having a blast leveling some new characters to get a feel again.
Still haven't decided on a new main yet. I have unlocked my glider and raptor....Yeah, map completion with these two is nice.
