    Voted Camelot Unchained

I've looked into a lot of the MMOs listed throughout their development and I'm just not impressed with any of them. I read through their manifestoes / designs / newsletters and get excited for the features that they're adding. There are some truly great ideas out there, from the family/aging mechanics in Elyria, or the community/sandbox feel of Pantheon, or the procedurally generated campaigns in Crowfall. Really epic stuff.

But then I dig a bit deeper.

Most of these games simply don't have the budget to achieve what they want. This is most evident by the fact that most indie MMOs in development are using off-the-shelf game engines that are completely unsuited to a massively multiplayer environment. So, my expectation is that most of these games will have one or two really interesting features and push the genre forwards, but the overall game experience is going to be pretty flat and uninspiring.

Camelot Unchained is different. Their scope is fairly limited, which means they should actually be able to achieve it. They've created their own game engine so that it can actually handle being an MMO, it won't be a hacked-up bloated engine that grinds to a halt when 20 people turn up. They've already done the hard parts, creating their engine, creating their building system with voxel-like destruction, created their unique ability system and animation system. They've shown us that all these hard parts actually work, so now they're onto the more easy bits - creating the world, creating more abilities and classes etc.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think CU is going to be a runaway success or anything like that, it's a pretty niche game. But, I do believe it will launch with the features advertised, I think it will work well and be extremely fun for those who enjoy RvRvR with deep combat.

While I believe Crowfall will launch/release a playable beta 6 months - 1 year before Camelot Unchained, I still had to choose CU. Crowfall's recent cash shop developments on top of the childish art style and having rats just drops my interest level even further.

I voted for Crowfall but honestly I can't imagine playing anything other than Warframe and Dark Souls for the foreseeable future. Warframe has my heart. I just got Hydroid Prime last night... omg he's so fucking awesome, every gun and melee weapon being so unique... ah man I love it. Also doing a fresh run of Ds2 sotfs this year, haven't ever beaten ds2, so hopefully this time will be different. Crowfall is looking aight, but any new mmorpg is gonna need like 4 years of extra content to be worth my time. Prolly why I always thought warframe was bad, turns out it has enough content now after 4 years of open beta lol.

There's a handful on this list that I have some interest in, but few I think will be releasing in 2018 in a healthy, relatively complete state unless they are holding out on the magic patch.

That narrowed it down to Monster Hunter World and Sea of Thieves with SoT winning on +100000 bonus points for the pirate theme.

LOL, agreed. The JK part should be that it might not launch in 2019 either! (SQ42 might come out 2018 or 19 though)

Crowfall vote; been playing a lot of the pre-alpha and it's seriously fun - rough, it's still alpha after all, but fun.

I can imagine them hitting at least open beta if not a soft-launch this year given how much has been accomplished in Q4.

I put my vote with Pantheon but would have tossed it to Escape from Tarkov if it was on the list.

CU is my most anticipated game for the future but not in 2018. So I have to fall back to my 2nd choice, Crowfall.

Crowfall.. just because....... and some may troll this, but I haven't played an MMO since ShadowBane that has filled the void yet. MOrtal Online, Darkfall, WoW, Tera, GW, I can name many. And though it's pre-alpha and in largely a testing state at the moment, I can see it coming together. I am genuinely excited.

Hope they will show Destiny 2 what it should of been and take their small remaining playerbase away.

Bought Destiny 2 at launch played about 2-3 hours of  it, wrote game off as a steaming pile of horse shit. Decided to give it a go one last time a few days ago & really enjoying the game now, Go figure.

Btw game looks glorious in Ultra Wide

The combat makes up for most of its shortcoming for a time. It's just not something you can enjoy long term in its current state.

I'm hoping anthem is good as well; I really don't want to see Bioware continue their slump. I think the game itself will be solid, but I do worry about the monetization. I don't mind cosmetic or convenience focused rmts, but I worry about how the community reacts to them. There is not a lot of patience for Bioware or EA at the moment and any missteps with microtransactions will kill the game before it even has a chance.

Same here, except that I like both Crowfall and CU equally - and CU is certainly not 2018, while CF has some chances.

I'd be happy with CU beta in 2018.

What a joke. Sounds like a great game, who was behind the scenes on it again? Oh that's right...EA.
