The Ogers look AWESOME. Wish we could pick and choose which model to use per race.

dont get all bent out of shape they are gonna be optional. as I said I think they look great.

I like the style a little better, but I don't think their that big of an improvement over the normal models, they really need to hire some new artist. I'm sure Blizzard, Arena Net or NCSoft's artist would be free to do a fiew optional models in their spare time.

When will these models be in-game?

The best part about those models was that when they were first revealed on the official forums, practically every second thread there turned into a flame bashing the current models, saying they're unimaginative, unoriginal and bland.

Now, why do I find that funny? Because while our current models may be highly inspired by western fantasy art and certain niches, up to date there are so many more asian MMOGs that recycle the same old anime-ish models with the huge eyes taking up 50% of the face, pointy ears and dumb expressions. But hey, it's good to know the soga models don't fall into that category along with a truckload of other asian games. (yes, that was sarcasm.

No thank you, I'll stick with my high poly-count, bland models, with uninteresting textures... they may not be the best models out there, but they sure as hell beat the low poly models, with the exact same facial expressions and the oversized eyes, good thing the human face doesn't have reflective surfaces on it, or they'd slap 10 layers of bloom effect on top of that.

With the exception of Blizzard, ArenaNet and NCSoft artists do a pretty poor job. It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to clone the same _asian_human_model_, much less when they're so poorly done. NCSoft models are nothing special, CoH models are decent, but nothing extraordinary, they look much like retextured version of EQL models. The only exception in all of this is Blizzard modellers, which do an awsome job creating beautiful models, but their work is all very cartoonish and low poly, hell, even SC:Ghost follows the same lines. I'd love some stylized WoW armor pieces with 5 times the poly count, in EQ2, if anything.

Always run with scissors. The quicker you go, the quicker you'll get to your destination and the quicker you'll finish using the scissors, therefore significantly reducing your chances of injuring yourself

You have an extremely unique taste in artistic ability 8) I'd say the general opnion among players is that Guild Wars has the most amazeing art of any game ever created, it's like walking through a fine painting.

p.s. try to actually make a game model as good as the NCSoft or Arena Net ones and it may give you a new appreication.

Absolutely loved them, what turned me off MOST out of everything in EQ2 was the totally shitty models. These are much much nicer.

These models remind me of Lineage 2, which is not a good thing.

  • RavenmgsRavenmgs Member Posts: 155

Remind me allot of WOW. The Dark Elves look almost identical to night elves in this style, lol.

  • moonfogmoonfog Member Posts: 979

One weird thing is if you look at them they are all almost the same looking....

Now if SOE implemented there "looks" into the customization then anyone could make them if they wish.
But in my opinion they look awful. They all look alike...

I think the reason people might like them is because you are used to the ones "we" have. I bet "over there" they love the ones we have....

Some are an improvement, some aren't. Pity it's going to be an all-or-none approach, since i'd prefer to mix the styles up than run on only one or the other.

I like the western-fantasy "more realistic" look, though I do think Sony more or less punted on their design. Or, rephrased, Sony did a terrible job in modelling (great job in animating those bad models, but...). A revamp shouldn't just be "all Soga or all original" but a total revamp of the original models. And introduce some race-specific equipment, and some friggin' COLOR in. I'm tired of my snakeskin leather looking just like the leather made from supposedly WHITE batskin. That alone would go far into differentiating appearances -- different colorations in the existing equipment.

Back to topic: more models, better modelled, would help, be they SOGA or not. And the option to run whichever individual model you want, without having to take the whole pot full.

I think the Ogres and Dark Elves look great, they look like they need a little fine tunning but otherwise I like them more then the current crop. In comparison to SWG though, the models in EQ2 are lackluster to say the least, I mean that in custimization terms that is.

Options are always better then none,  regardless if they are good or bad because it's all in the eye of the beholder.
