Has anyone ever actually seen an MMO made by someone posting about making one or wanting to make one on a random forum? I haven't personally. Even many kickstarter MMOs end up failing, and they are FAR higher end than a random dude on a forum posting about making his dream MMO.

I have however seen indie devs make niche games that are singleplayer or roguelikes and similar lower end (but sometimes still good) 2d games. But when they post about their game on a forum, they (most of the time) already have stuff to show and roguelikes and indie 2d games are far easier to make than an MMO.

But never seen a random dude posting on a forum about wanting to make his dream business, or dream game, or dream MMO ever actually do anything with it lol.

And why not use kickstarter and show stuff off instead of posting on a random forum?

I think be more open minded and expect the unexpected, of life is more random and spontaneous than you would think, which keeps it interesting. Life would be boring if people did the same formula for a millenia. I am trying to edit the original top post.

To answer people's questions, the server will either be hosted in N.A. or Europe. Surprisingly Europeans are common MMORPG players and can sometimes be the dominant population numbers wise, so thats why its a hard decision. Here are actual links to gameplay and ingame footage recently:

Wait a moment and what the hell. You're talking about hosting a pirate server. I thought you were talking about making an mmo. You're not creating anything. You'd be hosting some other teams creation which whatever, but don't claim to be creating anything.

Anyway, if I were put up with all the crap that goes with private servers it would be for Lineage 1 not wow. Maybe SWG because I never got to try it, but I'm not even sure that's worth it. Titanium sure wasn't. The client runs like ass.

Man what a bait and switch thread. Seriously OP wtf. :unamused:

To answer yours and others comments, I never claimed if you read the title or original posting "I am creating some new MMORPG from scratch of a brand never seen before concept!"

I am "creating" a playable free mmorpg private server. So I don't see how you are majorly confused?

    One word...impossible.

I went down that road years ago,had quite a bit of work done,a lot actually and HD died. However that was back in 98,a lot has changed, easier to get a lot of free assets/engines/tools.
Even still it is way too much work,if i hear a few people made a game,i know 100% for fact it has no chance at being a Triple A game.Heck i don't consider anything right now to be triple A ,too many facets are missing in designs and most of the designs are instances or just super cheap/low end graphics.
So you need to use free assets and a lot to get anywhere.Even after all the assets and sound files, music files,zones/zonal properties etc etc,you still have the daunting task of sub programs and depth of system programming, just way too much work.

Just because i say and know how much work a quality mmorpg is to make doesn't mean i am giving any developer a free pass,i still expect triple A effort if you plan on taking money from us.
Here is a hint, the most successful mmorpg imo is a pile of rubbish,so that tells you where i think the industry stands when comes to mmorpg's.Sure back in maybe 2000 most of these games would be considered a decent effort but not in 2017,nothing out there is worth my time to invest years into anymore.
space games are miles away from quality,SC will never be a triple A game, mmorpg's are still close if a dev puts in the effort,TCG's are close but still need a lot of work,Moba's are imo a complete waste of time and will never be quality games, some single player games are also close to being above average quality.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wait.  I'm confused.   You're not creating an MMORPG, your intent is to host a bootleg copy of another game.  Do you expect us to applaud your attempted misappropriation / theft of Blizzard's IP?  I hope you have a boatload of lawyers on call.

I'm not interested in WoW, or an illegal copy of an older version of WoW.

Point being,to actually pull off a "knock your socks off game" would need multi millions  "300+"and a very large well organized team.

Good backpedal but you didn't actually use the word server or imply you were talking about hosting some other game. There's a private/pirate/emu server forum just for this. Be clear about staying in the rules though because advertising for wow servers might not be okay with the management here.

I agree and I like your post and earlier posts, of being serious and actually on topic. A lot of people here kind of seem to be trolling and derailing and deconstructive, BUTTT i do believe highly in freedom of speech.

To add to what you said, I fully agree. Personally I don't know if I want to dedicate 5 to 10 years of my life of prep and pure studying of video game programming and mmorpg design, and then 5 to 10+ years and a huge chunk of my life to developing a once in your life project Triple AAA game of hundreds of millions budget; what I mean is I don't know if it is my life passion. I would've already been thinking about it constantly everyday and for years and would have been doing tons of research and googling and videos.

You don't see how we're confused?!  This is your opening post in this thread:

"I am interested in creating a Non-Profit, No Cash Shop, Hardcore MMORPG, because I feel like I see a lot of negativity around here of a bleak outlook of all developer games coming out. Will add more later.

Will be based on crafting and economy, open world pvp, one shard world server, non profit and no shops."

I see the words "creating" along with details that make it sound like something new is being made.  I don't see anything about a World of Warcraft private server in there.

But seriously, I'm in tears from laughing so hard, lol.

I am glad you are entertained. :) I try to have an affect on the world, and an interesting and positive one at that. Compared to the opposite if I had never even existed and could not have affected your time line or our crossing of paths.

And if you don't mind me hijacking it for a moment, I'd like to plug a movie I'm creating.  It's about ships fighting in outer space and dudes that fence with laser swords.  I think it's going to be a hit.  Check out this footage!

Here is the difference. The original Star Wars 1977 movie is still available and always will be. You can "experience it" again and again, as it originally was.

On the contrary, Original World of Warcraft (2005) is no longer playable or offered, and can't be found officially anywhere. What we now have is the modern World of Warcraft which is a terrible game and ruined and is a shell of its former self. And the original founders refuse to host or provide the original game again, although there is a huge demand for it.

I don't know how much value there is in making a private server in WoW. Especially since it's clearly illegal.

I think Minecraft does make some sense, as there you have a blessing from the developer. I had a team of 10-20 working on the project, which taught me a great deal about leadership. I also did some of the coding myself, so it was my introduction into Java in general. I then got a full scholarship at my University, based on my portfolio (which my Java coding was part of).

I see that as an alright decision. You are building a community that has some value. With WoW, I see it less so. You are doing something illegal - so whatever you are building is guaranteed to have little to no tangible value. In fact, it may have negative value if you get a lawsuit. You would also (presumably) be working with someone else's server software, so you won't learn as much in terms of coding.

It just seems like a decision I personally would not pursue at all.

Just because something that existed no longer exists does not infer that it can be freely recreated by others.  That's where Intellectual Property rights and Copyright Laws cover the original creative effort.  Yes, Blizzard 'refuses' to provide the original game again.  That's totally within their rights.  That you disagree with their decision does not give you the authority to recreate a version of their property that matches with your ideals.  Try painting your neighbor's house to the green with pink trim that it used to be before your neighbor bought the house and repainted it white.  My suspicions are that your neighbor might be upset, and you'd probably end up with a lawsuit.

I also think you might need to quantify this 'huge demand' for a version of a game from 2005.  Where are these people?  Wouldn't Blizzard be aware of such a group of customers, and wouldn't they have evaluated the cost vs. revenue potentials for reincarnating their game?  You seem to want to provide a server for altruistic reasons.  Blizzard is a business; they don't speak altruism.

Bottom line:  your preferences doesn't magically give you rights over property that isn't yours.  In some cases you can't do things to your property at your whim.  (Try living in a historical district).

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
