It won't let me paste it,but GameRevolution states the console player base is at over 8mil, becoming the most popular MMO on consoles.

To be fair it's the only real full-featured mmo on consoles right now.  Everything is a a MOBA or mmo-lite.

What about Final Fantasy and DCUO?
    Are they not full-featured?

Just curious as I haven't played them.

Oh! And there's Neverwinter on consoles as well.

not positive and not an expert at this, but doesn't DCUO kinda have that MOBA look?

I think FFXIV is a fully featured mmo, but I believe you have to get a sub to play it as well as a console sub or whatever it is (sorry i don't play on console).   I assume that a fully featured mmo on console that doesn't require a game sub would be more appealing to console gamers.

Rubbish, Ffxiv is a fully featured mmo. Don't let your fan boy for the game get the better of you and start lying lol.

That article links back to the article at mmorpg.com lol. And no, it's not an 8 mil "console player base", it's 8.5 mil who have bought the game on any format, PC, XONE and PS4 included.

There are a lot of people playing, at all times of the day. You cant find an empty map if you try. If you go to the 'hub' cities theyre absolutely packed. Mostly because people are still selling furniture designs and mats. Even the DLC zones are loaded. Thieve Guild map might be one of the top 5 maps in terms of population at any given time.

And because of the megaserver technology.

It's not a bad game and it's genius to build off the RPG series like that.  They have tons of content to port over.

I've yet to go into a delve without running into a few people, cities seem pretty packed so I don't see a population problem. Just enough without feeling like being at the State fair.

Megaserver can only do so much.

That's only part of it. I has always had a megaserver but since One Tamriel it is indeed busier everywhere.

Why? Because One Tamriel got rid of the alliance separation in PvE. Before that players from different alliances never saw each other when they were in the same zone.

A better gauge of whether it's busier now than before could be how long it takes dungeon queues to pop since all 3 alliances were already mixed in for that purpose before One Tamriel and it is indeed a shorter wait time these days. But even that is not a totally reliable metric since another change they made in the One Tamriel update was making all dungeon and raid loot BOP. That also created an incentive for running the dungeons more frequently since none of that stuff can be bought from other players any longer.

The fact is that we don't really know if there are more active players at the moment but for anyone playing it, it feels very much that way.... which in the end is all that really matters.

Not only would different alliances not see each other veteran (i.e. post level 50) characters were essentially further divided by their pre-160cp rank.

By breaking the link between zones and levels everywhere is - essentially - both a "newbie zone" and an "end zone". So there is no gradual drift towards a few zones; no "busy starter zones", "empty mid-zones" and "end zones full of high level characters".

Collectively the changes have made a visible difference.

Many of the zones I have been through feel a lot like GW2 Queensdale did before the nerfed the champion train there. Very busy atmosphere, running into folks all over, community as a whole seems pretty friendly too.

I've found myself playing ESO just like I played Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind, get so far into questing and then say screw it and start exploring every nook and cranny. My wife an I have been very surprised with how much we enjoy ESO. I haven't just explored in a mmo since my days in Asheron's Call 1 and 2.

I think they scaled the mega server back some because if there are that many people around bankers in some of those cities (as in 30-40 sometimes) with another hundred or so running around outside or inside stealing and extrapolating that out over all the zones thats A LOT of people right there, if there are 2 or 3 or 5 other 'layers' due to the mega server then well do the math.

I play at a weird time, between 5AM and 8 AM Pacific time. SO thats 8 AM to 11 AM East coast time. Obviously you get some Euros on the NA servers but even so at those times there are the numbers I cited running around. Riight now I would expect the numbers to be even more (obviously).

I'm sure the megaserver has helped a lot. But I constantly see people playing the game that are on my friends list- most from playing Destiny.
I think there's more of an appeal to the game.
And like the latest GameRevolution article states the game had been nothing but approved upon ala Ff.
I'll probably jump back in to the game with the Morrowind expansion much to the dismay of my wife.
The warden seems very appealing to me after running a Nightblade, templar and DK

PC Population is extremely healthy at the moment.  Tons of people in every zone regardless of time of day.  Towns/main hubs are packed with players.  Its doing very well.

Yeah. Pretty crappy server issues especially during the busiest part of the week. They're down again...
