Is there a plot? Is the game solo friendly, maybe offline?

I love Conan, but want to know if there is actually a storyline or if it's pure sandbox.  Also, can you play this game offline solo?  Can you "win?" (is there an ultimate challenge/boss).    I read that the AI is really poor and that everything aggro's, true?

There could be some sort of "story" but it's not a theme park game "with a story". You run into these stones that have bits of lore (we found one under water) as well as notes from dead travelers.

It's true that the AI is poor and true everything aggro's (well most things) however this is "early access" and it's clear that some things will be changed.

I absolutely love it which probably means that most people might not "love it". It's a survival game. Building, making sure you have resources, food, etc.

I love the exploration, that I can die easily and that there is building. I'm working on making a supreme temple to Set.

You can play the game solo but it's not really offlline, you sort of "make your own server". You can do this when you start the game up.

I should add that there is no "winning" other than to play on a pvp server and "crush your enemies". You can capture slaves and set them to work for you (not sure what they do but I think they can be guards and the like).

I live a rural area with a metered connection. All unlimited data options I have are just really bad and slow.

Really would like to play this as I am fan of survival games and a Conan fan since my 'wee pup days.' Are you able to play this game offline? Create my own server and then play offline, without consuming any data?

I think so. I seem to remember something about downloading the server files from steam for your own server.

    Does this help?

I would say that it is any always on connection.  as shown in the picture the minimum specs for the game require a broadband connection.  So I would say that this will not be game for you.

It's not solo friendly at all right now. A lot of the settings you can change to make it more bearable for solo play (such as durability, npc spawn rates, crafting costs, and I believe player health) do not work. Everything respawns so fast and if a pack of hyenas and spider gang up on you, it's over. They both have slowing effects that stack in such a way that they remove all movement speed.

Also, the amount of materials needed for almost everything are ridiculously high for a solo player, not to mention your tools and weapons break so fast (especially shields, they break in a few hits) that they require constant upkeep. Thankfully you can increase the harvest amount from all sources (which has weird side effects like harvesting multiple gazelle heads from one corpse) but it's only a bandaid fix at the moment.

The only story I've seen so far are pieces of paper and stones that, when interacted with, has a voice over.

The AI is minimal, archers don't chase, if theres an archer in a group and he spots you, the others wielding melee weapons just stand there. Everything gangs up on you(humans and monsters alike) but there are small amounts of monster in-fighting if you get two different monsters chasing after you and they accidently hit the other.

As it is, for solo play I would wait until they bring back the setting sliders, they have disabled a few in a recent update which has made solo play a huge time sink with little pay off.

I think it depends on the person. I actually like that there is danger and that you can be killed easily at lower levels. That's part of the fun.

I think the materials for building costs is fine though it is a bit wonky for some things. For instance, it's 50 stone for a foundation, 50 stone for a Staircase and 50 stone for arrows. Arrows.

The AI is bad true but that's it's own thing.

One thing that I like about the AI is that I'm pretty sure they go by sight. Crocodiles will run after you forever, but I've found that if you run and then hide behind a large rock or behind a tree you will lose them much quicker.

I'm really hoping they can have an awesome AI. It is something They've mentioned in my readings a few times.

I appreciate the danger too, but the danger mostly stems from the fact that all the encounters were meant to be engaged as a group as is the building hence the overly expensive material costs. If it were viable to dodge I would be less negative about the whole thing as it would be more than just "Is my armor high enough for me to take enough hits to kill x of y?".

The cost to build things is made much better for upping the harvest rates but I only wish the same could be done about the combat.

Once they fix combat and make it more than just trading blows, that's all I need.

The game is actually pretty fun to play solo, but if you're reading this thread and wanting to start on a new pvp server to try it.  Feel free to join us at:
