Nvidia adds intrusive telemetry to drivers

http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/nvidia_adds_telemetry_to_latest_drivers_heres_how_to_disable_it.html

"It's been brought to our attention that nVIDIA now has telemetry included with its drivers most likely if you installed GeForce Experience with the drivers. I'm getting conflicting reports whether it's specific to GeForce Experience or not. Regardless, it also continues the bloat with nVIDIA Wireless Controller and ShadowPlay services, something many don't need. "

As if the internet security, computing and privcy issues wasn't a shitshow already, creepy things are creeping into other places as well on your computer.

Heh just a quick tip to anybody using the Microsoft Autoruns program listed in the article in the OP:

Do not turn off the Adobe ARM or pages like this will not open. It's listed under the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" tab.

Other than that I had the 3 Telemetry things shown but they look pretty innocuous to me. I don't nor would ever use GeForce Experience so I didn't have the rest of what they are talking about.

I honestly don't see an issue here.

I don't use Nvidia drivers myself, but in addition to the scare of telemetry issues in general (invasive), I guess half the problem here is how telemetry might be/probably is something uninvited, shoehorned and perhaps hidden on your computer without notice.

I've never had much problem with data gathering on an anonymous basis. Other than it being a hog of my bandwidth and computer cycles. But companies (and governments) have proven time and time again that they simply can't be trusted, and that they are amassing huge troves of personally identifiable information.  Information which will be sold to anyone willing to pay the price, and with which the potential for misuse and misinterpretation is simply staggering.

Just this week here in my hometown of Seattle, people were being sent threatening letters about not buying pet licenses from the county because their names got entered into databases when they bought pet related items at their local markets. And the county county purchased those details from the merchants. Talk about Big Brother.

So if true, I say fuck you Nvidia. And I resent the hell out of you for the amount of time you're now going to make me waste trying to resist your evil plans. So much so that it may even influence my buying decisions in the future?

Jesus is that really true? That is royally fucked up on a few levels.

You can legally buy weed in Seattle but it's illegal to have a pet without a license?

Your Government officials must really be stoned. Or the voters that allowed that law to exist are.

You guys who always trot out this "tin foil hat" stuff sometimes really lack intelligence and imagination. Apathetic people like you are probably the primary reason why things are only going to get much worse.

"What’s next? A letter from the health department noting purchases of ice cream and potato chips?"

"No one wants Big Brother (government/potential employers etc.) to watch his or her grocery list or keep track of every visit to a marijuana or liquor store. "

And what about, thanks to Nvidia,  a potential employer finding out that you spend an "inordinate" amount of time playing computer games? Because there are certainly more than a few people out there who think computer gaming is degenerate.
