you sir win my +1 of the day, the term "horsehit" is still to this day one of the best retorts to any statement made!

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

Are we talking about the same ESO that casts every player as the savior of the king and hero of the world by the time you complete the starter area?

If I were playing an mmorpg right now it could only be ESO. It's far ahead of the curve. So many great memories, friendships, and rivalries made out in Cyrodill.

    Or maybe order hall hero?

Valid question though. After you leave the starter area? Not a hope. A long way down the line you do start to become a hero though. The result of ESO having a very strong "single player driven" story. Not the "its an mmo that has catered to single player content". The legacy of Elder Scrolls games come through very strongly and there is an awful lot of content. Months down the road you can be a hero.

However ESO works on multiple levels. In the campaigns ESO is very close to being a very old school style mmo. Not quest driven.

And then there is the co-op and group side of life. ESO is several games in one.

I will agree here. No other modern MMO gives you more customization in what armor to wear, or what weapons to use, what othe skill lines to pick. What abilities to train, what to skip..etc.

Deep and immersive. What makes me laugh are those that will come in and say played two and a half years, it's not that good. Well it gave you two and a half years of entertainment so far...it must have something.

Not to rain on your parade, and again as a fan of ESO - but saying "no other modern mmo gives you more customization" is simply false.

There are certainly other MMOS where you can pick any weapon any armor and pick skills you want to customize your class even to a greater degree. Not going to name them as I don't want this to turn into a pissing contest of "my mmo can beat up your mmo".

I would love to know which other AAA mmos allow the same degree or more customization than in ESO (pick any weapon any armor and pick skills you want). The only major mmo I haven't at least tried is EQ1/2, does that have a similar degree of customization in terms of  being able to use any weapon/armor and almost any skill?

I'll keep it as short as possible: -
    1. It has a great IP incorporating ideas from quality single player games and interesting lore.
    2. The world is deep and immersive.
    3. The quests are intricately crafted with interesting NPC's.
    4. The phasing creates a changing world as you progress; you can witness the consequences to your actions.
    5. You do not sit in a hub town waiting for the group finder tool to pop.
    6. The combat, and the combat options (incorporating a limited skill bar and extensive customisation options) allow the greatest freedom since GW1.
    7. It looks pretty.
    8. The cash shop is relatively unobtrusive.
    9. It has a huge amount of content; many hours of quests and little requirement to repeat the same content over and over in the desperate need to earn some trinket.
    10. It is a game on the rise; it is not an ageing, waning game that has seen better days and is fighting against attrition of its playerbase.
    11. and as a bonus... it is releasing regular content...
    Sooo it is TSW ripoff?

Question for the OP:   You say you can see a changing world as you progress.  Isn't that seen other themepark games such as WoW and LOTRO?   How is it different in ESO.  Not sure what you mean by phasing allows you to see it.  Admittedly, I havent played a character through all the content yet so I might not have reached this phasing you talk about yet.
...phasing happens after many quests. As in you shift to a different phase where the world shifts around you. Yes WOW does something similar (but honestly, that game was broken for me around WOTLK so not too interested); but ESO does it more intricately and more subtly, it happens on a small and brilliantly immersive level.

    ............
Notice you didn't mention lotro even though the person you quoted did?

Lotro has a way better story and changing world, eso doesn't even come close.

The combat in eso is a bastardsize for of action combat. As for skill and it being the most open, you have never played DarkFall because that game doesn't even have classes, eso does.

The world is ok but repeatative and the dungeons are pretty similar. It has a fair amount of content but it stilk has a long way to go before it can come close to EQ2 which of course is an older game.

The cash shop is non intrusive but lets welcome lock boxes lol.

All in all it an average thempark mmo and nothing special.

One tamrial is a joke, what's the point when most players have already played those areas.

They should of bought in new areas and then opened the game up.

Its kind of funny that there are subtle jabs at WoW and EQ.

Love ESO also.   Good thing since it will probably be the last huge PvE themepark game we will see for a long time, forever?   Market seems geared towards MOBA's, mobile games, and survival/PvP gankfest games.
You need to come away from stary eyed lovel for eso and see whats actually going on in the mmo world.

    Bless Online.

    Pantheon.

    Saga Of Lumia.

Do your homework before you spout such nonsense.

ESO really is in a great state. I play since start and i can assure that the game is more solid atm. Even PvP performance got better in the recent patches. When everything is working fine is a blast to play. The combat is great. Very promising game indeed...

Somehow, ESO manages to be an Elder Scrolls game that feels nothing like an Elder Scrolls game. It's awful.

and the biggest negative is DLC.  I want to check it out again, til I realize I am about 150$ behind in DLC's

Bless might be ok, will have to wait and see.

The other two are still a twinkle in the devs eyes, especially the last one on your list. Made me laugh that you talk of "spouting nonsense" and then write that.

I played beta on PS4 and had a blast, but sold my system later on. I am getting a new PS4 and can't wait to play it again.

I love ESO, too. I just hope they can get the group finder to work so I can more easily run dungeons when I'm in the mood. At least they admitted that it's not working as intended and they are aware of the problem.

Playing a bit of WoW now and having fun with my demon hunter, but ESO is still my main. Will definitely keep an eye on Bless.

Nice banner because of your ignorant post I will never drop a cent to that game ^^ You are  the face of their community and I don't want to be with as-holes xD

ESO.. Great game until level 50, then mind numbingly boring.  Granted I stopped playing about a month or two before they announced a change in payment model, so it may be different now.   PC players were basically paying to beta test the game for consoles which was their focus all along.  It's the console crowd that is keeping the game alive and not the PC base.

As far as the list of pro's?  I could probably come up with just as many con's if not more, but no point to it.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

If you haven't played the content for all three factions then you don't need the DLC.

If you really, really want the DLC then there is a Gold Edition coming out very soon which includes base game + all DLC up to the most recent new dungeons at c. $60.

If you only want some specific DLC then there are periodic 50% off type sales on e.g. the crowns (used to buy the DLC) or the DLCs themselves. The current base prices of the DLC vary of course.

Its very much a 'marmite' type of game, you either love it or hate it, it is very much a niche game however, in much the same way that Eve Online is, they cater to fairly specific types of players. The odd thing is that the niche that ESO falls into, is probably not one commonly associated with Elder Scrolls games :o

I bought this game when it came out and never played a second month. The thing is I agree wholeheartedly with the first three points, especially number 3 - ESO has some of the best written questing in an MMO. However the implementation of number 4 is one of the things that killed it for me. It was just too painfully obvious to me that what I was seeing was not what others were seeing. Since they dropped the sub model though it is on the list of games to revisit. I am just not looking forward to the download.

Yep PC launch should have been mucj better. And yes I think we can assume that more consoles copies have been sold. Same deal with Skyrim and possibly Oblivion as well.

"Great game until level 50, then mind numbingly boring". That doesn;t make it a bad game of course. At some point we all get sick - when it comes to food and drink sometimes literally - if we have to much of a good thing.

This is one of the things that was changed though. The VR system was scrapped. The One Tamriel update, for better or for worse, will remove factions when it comes to PvE as well. So do them in whatever order you want. At some point though people are still going to get bored and need a rest: there are so many story based quests; months and months of them. (That and getting rid of many of the bugs for the console launch).
